SEVENTEEN: DK, the sunshine of the Seventeen

We are February 18th in South Korea, so it is the birthday of DK, member of the group SEVENTEEN. It’s a large group so I suggest you discover a little more each member through their written portraits.

The member in the spotlight today is DK, the band’s powerful vocalist and sunshine singer.

DK was born on February 18th, 1997. Like two other members, THE8 and MINGYU, he is part of the 97 line group with Jungkook (BTS), Jaehyun (NCT), Bambam (GOT7), Yugyeom (GOT7) and Eunwoo (Astro ), which meets often to have fun together. During the “Kayo Dechukje 2016”, they covered the song “I’m a flying butterfly” with female idols born the same year to celebrate youth.

DK is a boy with a big heart. The other members take care of him because he is very naive. He is also very emotional and cries often. Regardless, he still tries to make fans smile. He tries to communicate with them, so he works very hard to be able to express himself in English as easily as possible. He is a hard-working person who succeeds in what he undertakes.

DK suffers from acrophobia, however, he battled his fear on an episode of their reality show “Going Seventeen”.

During the pre-debut show “Seventeen TV”, DK showed his wacky side and gained popular sympathy and the nickname of “happy virus”.

He is really passionate about music: not being good at school, he only had music left. He joined the “SOPA” (the famous artistic school) as an option “Acrobatic dance”. The principal of his school landed him an audition for Pledis Entertainment which he passed. He joined the agency in 2012 and became an intern. The competition was tough and SEUNGKWAN thought DK wouldn’t hold up, but with a voice like hers and a unique dream it had to be. DK therefore debuts with the group on May 26th, 2015, as a main vocalist, alongside SEUNGKWAN and member of the vocal unit.

Shortly after their debut, on July 31st, 2016, DK took part in the “Mask Singer” show where he impressed with his voice capable of achieving incredible high notes. He will impress with his high notes many times during performances at Immortal Song.

On March 21st, 2019, he was announced as the headliner of the musical “Xcalibur” alongside Xia Junsu and a famous musical comedian. A real pride for him and the fans. His work paid off and he was acclaimed by the public and several members and idols came to see his musical and congratulate him.

Having been part of a younger rock band, DK posted many covers and showed his musical skills by filming himself playing guitar. It is also thanks to one of his covers that DOKYEOM is offered the chance to participate in the Korean-English hybrid version of the song “17” by singer Pink Sweats with one of his group members, JOSHUA.

We wish him a happy birthday, hoping that this year will bring him success and happiness, both in his professional and personal life and that the group will have another year full of projects.
