On January 16th, 2020, HYUNA published photos and videos of her on Instagram wearing a new hairstyle.
These photos and videos provoked many reactions. Some fans complimented her, appreciating the fact that she is interested in another culture, others reacted strongly by judging that she made cultural appropriation.
Cultural appropriation is the fact of using cultural elements belonging to another culture, generally a minority, in a way that is deemed offensive, abusive or inappropriate.
A few hours later, HYUNA posted a video, to wish her fans a good night but also to apologize. She explains that she didn’t want to hurt anyone and that she respects everyone.
We can observe that HYUNA decided to braid her hair completely innocently, surely when passing a front of a stand during her trip in Thailand.
Let’s not forget that it’s important to remain benevolent towards people and their possible errors. We can quite calmly explain our opinions without blaming someone.
