WAKER
WAKER, a new boy group entering the music industry today, has expressed its feelings about its debut.
WAKER (Kohyun, Kwon Hyeop, Ijun, Leo, Saebyeol, Sebum) released its first mini album “MISSION OF SCHOOL” on every music site this January 8 at noon KST.
WAKER is a group name that means “a person who creates, who inspires“, and he expressed his ambition to “knock on the dreams of young people who have not yet awakened“. It has already started operations in Japan and is receiving favorable reviews there, and plans to continue to be active in Korea and Japan.
In response, WAKER expressed his determination to debut through its agency and its gratitude to the fans who have waited for them so far.
Here is WAKER’s Q&A session
Q. What do you think about the release of your first album?
KOHYUN: Actually, this isn’t my first time debuting. So I think this is my last chance. As a leader, I try to lead the members well and work harder than anyone else.
KWON HYEOP: The other members (except Kohyun) have not debuted yet. I am very happy and excited to be with them for the first time.
IJUN: I can’t believe it. I’m glad I had the opportunity to become a cooler person by debuting.
LEO: It’s so amazing and I’m so happy to finally be able to make my dream debut. Since it’s just the beginning, I want to work hard and make WAKER’s name known to everyone.
SAEBEYOL: “debuts” has been a dream since I was young, and it’s also a dream that I put aside for a while. That’s why I’m more excited and happy.
SEBUM: It doesn’t seem real that an album with our vocals as a member of WAKER is coming out. It’s full of joy and excitement. It’s our first album, but it alone contains 10 tracks and 7 of our songs. It’s very nice to be able to convey our voices in different ways. Please listen to it a lot.
Q. What kind of album is “MISSION OF SCHOOL”?
KOHYUN: “MISSION OF SCHOOL” is an album that begins the journey with fans to see in which direction WAKER will develop in the future. The title track is “Atlantis”, a pop genre song that combines retro synthesizer and electric guitar. This shows a new dream that WAKER will achieve and the beginning of a secret story that he will face.
KWON HYEOP: This album contains the frustrations, love and bromance that high school students feel in their school life. I want to show how I grow through these different emotions.
Q. Please introduce the title song and music video.
IJUN: The title song, “Atlantis,” is a pop genre song that everyone can listen to without any burden. It’s an exciting and relaxing song, so I hope you enjoy it a lot.
LEO: The music video features six achromatic boys who have lost something and are helpless. But in reality, the boys were not lost, they were gems who had not yet discovered their power. It’s a story about discovering every power and potential, finding the light, and determining to shine for themselves in the future.
Q. Is there a reason why there are 10 songs in the mini-album? Any other song recommendations?
SEBUM: Since it’s our first album, I wanted to have a variety of songs. It’s a mini album because I wanted to show more of WAKER’s color through various songs, but I added a lot of songs. The recommended song is “Day dream”! The reason is that it is a song full of humor and joy when WAKER is together. Also, I am more attached to the song because I created the choreography myself.
Q. We are also curious about your first goal and the dream of WAKER.
KOHYUN: First of all, my goal is not to promote much. My dream is to work with the members for a long time and consistently.
IJUN: The goal and the dream are the same. I want to have more of our songs and organize a solo concert in a big concert hall. So I hope you can make a set list full of WAbKER songs and enjoy it with our fans.
Q. What features, charms and unique pieces of WAKER do you trust the most?
SAEBEYOL: First of all, the atmosphere, image and personality of the six members are all characterized. Therefore, I believe fans will be able to experience different, non-overlapping charms with each member. I think our strength lies in the fact that we can experience six different charms within one group, WAKER.
Q. You have been doing activities at the same time since you started. What was the occasion? What was the reaction abroad?
KWON HYEOP: It’s to communicate with more fans. In Japan, starting with handing out flyers in person, we met the fans up close, and there is an image that this is a group that the fans formed themselves. That’s why it seems like more and more fans are watching with affection.
SEBUM: I was active in Japan before my official debut, and I think I had a big desire to experience the scene even a little earlier. I wanted to meet and communicate with my fans and show ourselves, so I decided to do my activities in Japan first. Fortunately, the local response is positive and they support us a lot, so I think I should work harder.
Q. We are curious about the models of each member and the group.
KOHYUN: Lee Hongki, Yang Yoseop and Kim Junsoo are models. WAKER’s models are God, Super Junior, TVXQ, Big Bang, EXO and BTOB. In fact, all seniors in K-pop are models. I respect their music and their performances.
KWON HYEOP: V, Taemin and Jonghyun are models. I respect them.
IJUN: Michael Jackson, who has been interested in dance since he was young, is my role model.
LEO: My role model is G-Dragon. I’ve listened to a lot of Big Bang songs since I was young and I still listen to them a lot.
SAEBEYEOL: My role model is Park Hyoshin. I love his songs.
SEBUM: My role model is Baekhyun from EXO. I still want to learn a lot about his talent, his stage sense, his singing skills, his dancing skills and his stage control.
Q. Has the name of the fan club been decided?
KOHYUN: It’s a “Sleeper”. Our team name includes “깨어나다, 각성시키다” in Korean (Wake up), so we created our fan club name in the opposite direction.
Q. A word for Sleepers (fandom name), please.
KOHYUN: Thank you very much for always being “Sleepers”, and we will also work hard to show you a better side of us. Let’s continue to be together. I love you ❤️
