SEVENTEEN’s new subunit, S.COUPS X MINGYU, reinterprets Roy Orbison’s hit “Oh, pretty woman.”
On September 16 at 10 PM KST, Pledis Entertainment released six track samplers from S.COUPS X MINGYU’s first mini album, “HYPE VIBES,” on SEVENTEEN’s official social media. The videos capture everyday moments freely enjoyed by S.COUPS and MINGYU, paired with snippets of the new songs, heightening anticipation for the upcoming release.
The first video charms with a cheerful melody that instantly lifts the mood. Scenes of S.COUPS and MINGYU surfing in the ocean add to the refreshing vibe. Their unexpected, playful side contrasts with the strong charisma they have shown as members of the hip-hop team.
In the second video, a familiar melody flows in and immediately grabs attention. S.COUPS X MINGYU included the legendary love song “Oh, pretty woman” in their new album through interpolation, a technique that involves replaying or re-recording elements of an existing track to reuse them. Widely known as the theme song of the movie “Pretty woman“, the track was a phenomenal success when first released in 1964, selling 7 million copies. Curiosity is already rising over how S.COUPS and MINGYU have reimagined this romantic classic.
