The boy group XDINARY HEROES, from which GUNIL withdrew, raised issues regarding the departure process, announcing a conflict.
On August 13, the agency JYP Entertainment suddenly announced the departure of GUNIL.
At that time, JYP Entertainment declared: “Regarding the matter related to GUNIL, our company is deeply aware of the seriousness of the situation and had in-depth discussions from various angles with the artist”, explaining that it had deemed it difficult to pursue the group’s activities and had terminated the exclusive contract by mutual agreement.
This had as a trigger a publication of denunciation by a person named “A”, who claimed to be GUNIL‘s ex-girlfriend. “A” asserted having heard violent statements from GUNIL, such as “I want to slap fans”, and also declared that GUNIL had expressed dissatisfaction regarding the performances and the agency.
As the controversy regarding the private life and personality of GUNIL amplified, the agency decided to terminate the exclusive contract after his departure from the group. The departure of GUNIL, leader and drummer of the group, had considerable repercussions.
At the same time as GUNIL‘s departure, the organizers of the Japanese music festival “Summer Sonic 2026” announced the same day on their official account the cancellation of XDINARY HEROES’s attendance.
Regarding the reason for their absence, the organizers of the festival explained: “A request for withdrawal of participation having been made by the agency, XDINARY HEROES’s attendance was cancelled”.
Furthermore, XDINARY HEROES also cancelled its third fan meeting “THE X-TOWN”, which was scheduled to take place from September 18 to 20 at the Hwajeong Gymnasium of Korea University.
Thereafter, GUNIL left a long message on the fan communication platform on the 13th, indicating that it would be his last farewell.
He expressed his complex feelings by declaring: “I really wanted to remain a member of XDINARY HEROES until the end and protect the six members of the group. However, as you know, I had to accept the company’s decision by force of circumstances”, adding: “I cannot realize the reality either for now”.
GUNIL then expressed his affection and recommendations for the members: “The five members are really all, without exception, most admirable, formidable and lovely”, continuing: “Although the dream of performing together at Wembley cannot materialize, I will now support and back these friends one step behind so that they can one day achieve this dream without fail”.
However, one week after his departure, GUNIL communicated a contradictory position. On August 20, through lawyer Seong Jae Hwan of the law firm Juwon, he asserted that there had been no consent on his part in the process of terminating the exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment and departing from the group.
Lawyer Seong Jae Hwan emphasized on his official account: “The fact that GUNIL used inappropriate expressions in a private setting is an imprudence that cannot be justified for any reason whatsoever”, acknowledging the controversial remarks, while specifying: “We clearly declare that the content according to which the artist allegedly slandered his fellow members or met another person during his relationship is also false”.
Furthermore, Attorney Seong clarified: “There is no fact according to which GUNIL left the group on his own, nor did he consent to the termination of the exclusive contract”. He pursued by maintaining that in view of the circumstances and the nature of this matter, it is difficult to consider that there is a ground for termination of the exclusive contract.
On this subject, GUNIL‘s camp expressed its wish to serenely pursue dialogue with JYP Entertainment.
While JYP Entertainment had previously clearly indicated that there had been a mutual agreement in the process of terminating GUNIL‘s contract, the latter’s camp formulated diametrically opposed claims.
While JYP Entertainment has already officialized a five-member system without GUNIL, the ex-member’s camp refuted ever having consented to the termination of the exclusive contract and to the departure from the group, strongly opposing the positions of both parties.
With GUNIL‘s camp having expressed its wish for a serene dialogue, attention is focused on the question of whether the conflict will end with an agreement or whether it will transform into a legal dispute surrounding the exclusive contract.
