Actor JANG IN SUB precisely printed the first impression of the character of LEE JIHOON thanks to restrained acting.
In the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama “Love doctor (Between steps)” broadcast on the 5th and 6th, JANG IN SUB appeared in the role of LEE JIHOON, a professor in the mathematics department of Seohan University, naturally immersing himself in the plot.
In the drama, LEE JIHOON is a character endowed with cold judgment and demanding criteria, and JANG IN SUB naturally revealed the character’s personality from his very first appearance through an unexaggerated tone of voice and subtle expression changes.
In the scene where he randomly crosses paths with LIM YUJIN (played by KIM SO HYUN) in an art gallery, he brought to life the quirky side of LEE JIHOON with an embarrassed look accepting an unfamiliar situation and sober reactions. In particular, in the figure where he looks in quite an unfamiliar manner at YUJIN who describes her own situation as a “duckweed”, he added light entertainment by creating a subtle off-beat rhythm between the two people through short reactions only.
On the other hand, in his area of expertise, he revealed the solid face of a professor. LEE JIHOON, who examined YUJIN’s graduate school entrance exam paper, evaluated: “She clearly has talent”, recognizing the potential at a glance. JANG IN SUB convincingly expressed the expertise of professor LEE JIHOON and his certainty regarding his own judgment with a calm look and a line delivery without superfluousness.
In addition, being a character evaluated as a “demanding professor”, JANG IN SUB‘s acting, which does not reveal his emotions much, naturally locked together with the character. He built LEE JIHOON’s personality step by step through detailed expressions such as silence when listening to the other person’s words, short breaths and shifts in gaze.
Thus, JANG IN SUB precisely depicted the character of LEE JIHOON even during a short appearance, passing naturally from one temperature to another, ranging from a quirky and sober aspect to cold expertise. As he announced the start of his appearances proper, expectation also grows regarding the active role that JANG IN SUB will show in the future as LEE JIHOON in “Love doctor (Between steps)”.
