SIGNAL : The renewal of a group.

Group SIGNAL takes its first steps on the Korean stage.

After having debuted in Japan more than a year ago in June 2018, the group SIGNAL (시그널) arrives in Korea with the album “THE FIRST SIGNAL: BEGINS” and it is to their showcase of beginnings, of this August 22nd at a restaurant in Jamsil, we were able to make a first impression on this new group that has already been surrounded by a large Japanese fanbase.

SIGNAL is a group that debuts under the JStar Entertainment and is formed of four members; BOKEUN, YOUNGHO, GIHWAN and KYUHWAN. The name SIGNAL is significant because it expresses the fact of sending a message of love and comfort to the greatest number. Having already debuted in Japan, the group proves their willingness to have a wide range of activities in the world. Let’s learn a little bit about members :

BOKEUN (김복은) : born October 12, 1994, he measures 1 meter 78 for 58 kg. During the year 2012, he was part of the group E7 under the pseudo Josh, and is also part of Elvin Crew before integrating SIGNAL as a leader and sub-vocal. His specialty is Japanese, which he speaks fluently, and the race.

YOUNGHO (노영호) : born March 24, 1993, he measures 1 meter 79 for 60 kg. In 2013, he was part of the group PURE (퓨어) before joining SIGNAL as lead vocal. His specialty is also Japanese, as well as composition, writing and being MC.

GIHWAN (김기환) : born November 24, 1993, he is 1 meter 81 for 62 kg. He integrated SIGNAL as a rapper and dancer, and his specialty is to be a choreographer.

For this debut album, the group offers us the following three tracks :

너 다운 : title track composed by All Naked

The album consists of a 25-page photobook with bluish and orange tints, reminiscent of the dominant colors of their debut MV. However, it does not have photocard but the photos and words of the members will delight you anyway. For their debut in Korea, the group opts for a summer song track accompanied by a fluid dance that seems to be within the reach of anyone who would like to learn. It is after the broadcast of this VM that the showcase can begin.

The MC answering to the nickname of Doctor welcomes us and announces the program of the showcase, before the group goes on stage and presents itself. Quickly, KYUHWAN reveals to us that he dreamed to be singer since his childhood and does not hide his joy of being in front of his public, constituted largely of Japanese having made the flight until Korea to support this young group . BOKEUN and YOUNGHO then thanked them in particular, using Japanese to express their gratitude. The group then decides to perform twice their song title “너 다운“, the fans giving themselves to heart joy to shout the fanchants throughout the restaurant. Once the benefits are over, the MC is very surprised to see that GIHWAN does not sweat a drop. It is with laughter that the principal responds while he must surely hold his popularity of this characteristic.

Members are then asked to demonstrate their particular talents. KYUHWAN starts and chooses to emulate foreign singer Greg from SuperStarK. BOKEUN, he puts forward his body, revealing his abdominals and putting forward his throat, bringing out his veins when he cuts his breath, which owes him the nickname “Mok” (목), namely “throat” . YOUNGHO imitated a gorilla in full race, followed by an ostrich and finally GIHWAN gave us a dance demonstration, even having fun with the MC to teach him certain movements.

The group becomes professional again and performs a medley of their other two titles, the flashes of the cameras of the fans strafing them while they throw smiles and “hearts” to them abundantly. Once finished, they were asked a variety of questions to which the members answered in all sincerity, expressing for example that being a united group helped them enormously during difficult times. They also reveal that it’s been a year since they were working for their Korean debut, despite their debut in Japan. When asked if they had a model, GIHWAN answered WINNER, declaring that listening to their songs made him happy and in a good mood. YOUNGHO tells us that his favorite dish is the Tteokbokki, KYUHWAN expressed his wish to appear in singing shows and then sang “Beautiful” singer Crush, while GIHWAN prefers Running Man.

The showcase ends with their thanks after an hour spent with them. To thank us for coming, they decided to organize a phototime so that we could take a picture with the group, alongside the donations of rice made by the fans, as well as slogans congratulating them for their debut, comparing even limbs to glittering stars in the sky.

Reporter’s word: Very smiling despite the sometimes obvious stress of being on stage, the group quickly put everyone at ease, including joking regularly with the MC. With a fanbase already established for a year, no doubt that this group will manage to send us his message of comfort and love, and wish them good luck for these Korean debut!
