GOLDEN CHILD are back on stage for an explosive comeback with “Wannabe”!
Today, Monday, November 18, at YES24 Live hall in Seoul, in front of the press, Woollim Entertainment‘s group, GOLDEN CHILD 골든차일드, signs their comeback with the title “Wannabe”, taken from their very first album “RE:BOOT“, after having made their debut on August 28, 2017 with the song “DamDaDi” from the mini-album “GOL CHA“.
The group is composed of ten members: DAEYEOL (leader), Y (main vocal), JANGJUN (main rapper), TAG (main rapper), SEUNGMIN (lead vocal), JAEHYUN (sub vocal), JIBEOM (lead vocal), DONGHYUN (main dancer), JOOCHAN (main vocal) and finally BOMIN (maknae). They mark their return with twelve new titles:
“Re-boot“: This intro titled “Re-boot” sums up GOLDEN CHILD‘s previous albums in one word, meaning that a system reboots and returns to its original state. The composition of the song starts with a warm radio atmosphere, then an impressive dramatic turnaround occurs in the second part of the song. “Wannabe” (title): This song represents the perfect “you”, not a second person who could be our lover, but our inner self. The lyrics, which speak of agony and true ideal values, are part of GOLDEN CHILD‘s new momentum. Through the passion of this song, we can feel the charm of a more relaxed and deeper group.
“Wannabe represents the GOLDEN CHILD we would like to be, that’s why we chose it as the title song”. – DAEYEOL
“Lately”: This orchestral electric guitar performance gives a catchy sound to this upbeat, pop-dance song, driven by GOLDEN CHILD‘s passion and sensitivity.
“나친반 (Compass)“: A comforting pop-electro song about being tired of an uncertain future, but not giving up on trying to pursue your dreams.
“No matter what” (JANGJUN & TAG unit) ft. JOOCHAN: This sub-unit performs a song with Future-Bass in the background and tells the story of “growth.” The honest lyrics will make you feel empathy as the Vocal-Chop sound reverses genres in the second half of the song.
“문제아” (JOOCHAN solo): This is the first solo of the lead vocalist JOOCHAN who covers the 1994 hit “The classic“, a song that comforts and pushes us to improve ourselves from now on. JOOCHAN’s lyrical voice helps to create a warm atmosphere for the listener.
“I have been preparing this solo since February, when the CEO of the agency offered me to work on it. I have, since then, done everything I can to not disappoint him.” – JOOCHAN
“그러다 봄“: Released as a digital single in May of this year, it is the group’s first song of the year that gave a pleasant and warm shiver.
“She’s my girl“: This title is a confession that talks about a boy’s passion against the backdrop of an upbeat funky song, accompanied by brass, piano and a choir. The tempo changes between the verses and the rock-electro choruses are also an interesting factor that helped create a unique style.
“둘만의 천국” (DAEYEOL & SEUNGMIN & DONGHYUN unit): This unit song is characterized by a retro drum sound that creates nostalgia mixed with various instruments to give a warm feeling. It is a song that contains pure love for a precious one.
“Fantasia (Y solo)”: This EDM pop music allows to highlight Y‘s solo, with a rhythm guitar sound and a captivating chorus. Evoking the emotion of a place full of illusions, which translates a longing for what one wants to find in the reality of dreams and ideals, underlined by the emotion that Y‘s sophisticated melody and childlike voice give off.

“도망가지마“: Like a floating petal that can’t be caught by hand. Like that bird that flies in the sky, it’s a song that you brush but can’t catch. Poetic lyrics and powerful sounds, along with GOLDEN CHILD‘s vocals, complete this dramatic song.
“놓지 않기로 해” (JAEHYUN & JIBEOM & BOMIN unit): A British pop ballad, this sub-unit song features the emotional vocal harmony of the three members. The lyricism of the title is underscored by piano that seems to be brushed by a breeze of wind at the beginning, then begins to become more and more dynamic and impressive. This song is about a boy’s commitment expressing a message of hope despite his fear of not always staying together with his loved one.
The showcase begins with the broadcast of a video retracing the group’s career, from its beginnings to today. The members then end up going on stage and introducing themselves. JOOCHAN reassures everyone from the start. He who was sick a few days before the comeback, now feels much better and ready to promote this album. BOMIN confides that they took a long time before returning to the stage to be able to present a comeback giving them a more masculine image than usual.

The members return to the group’s concept for this album and are unanimous in saying that JOOCHAN fits well with this comeback, standing out in particular with his pink hair. Y is grateful to the composers for having written such good lyrics and having made it possible to prepare an album with solo and sub-unit songs.
Very quickly, the boys continue with the live performance of “나친반 (Compass)” with clean and clear choreography with artistic research. The lightness of the dance would almost make you forget the number of members in the group. BOMIN returns to the title once the performance is over and declares that the song represents the words that a man would like to say, when he has a lot of concerns.
The MV is then broadcast. The clip is rich in its production, it is a real 90° turn that the group adopts for a style that suits them perfectly.

The maknae talks about the difficulty he had in preparing this album in the middle of filming a drama, and was often sick because of it. During the group’s hiatus, the agency also debuted a new group, ROCKET PUNCH, no longer making GOLDEN CHILD the “youngest” of Woollim Enterainment, to their great joy.
JOOCHAN took the opportunity to go to Busan, where he was able to participate in radio shows. He enjoyed the experience a lot, and he hopes to repeat it with the whole group next time. The group ends up concluding the showcase, asking its audience to support this comeback.
This first album, “RE-BOOT“, includes a 2020 calendar, an A4 sheet with the image of a member, a photocard and a 42-page photobook, sometimes in blue tones, sometimes in an industrial theme. Ideal for this end of the year!
