RYU SUJEONG
Member of LOVELYZ of Woollim Entertainment, RYU SUJEONG will make her solo debut this May 20 with the title “Tiger eyes“, extracted from her first mini album.

Characterized by her soft face and her rather deep voice, the young woman surprises with her beginnings, the style of which however seems quite distant from that of her original group. It is around a table in a cafe that we come to meet the artist who looks back on her debut.
The interview begins with the broadcast of her clip where the singer surrounds herself with many dancers to highlight the meticulous dance that she presents. Charismatic, she manages to stand out and reveals herself as an attractive woman in a refined decor but at the same time strong because it alternates between scenes in a port or in a warehouse. The lights are sometimes blue, sometimes red, she dressed in white or leopard pattern recalling the title of her solo.
« My image is certainly different from LOVELYZ but I wanted to explore a new genre which corresponds to my voice.» – RYU SUJEONG
While preparing her album, she found that being alone in front of the camera and in the studio was an entirely different experience and far more complicated than she expected. She had to train more than usual and was able to see the work accomplished by her predecessor KEI in the same group. Her voice, which is considered as “husky”, is an asset for her to get started in pop music.

While the musical imprint of the group is rather turned towards romanticism and delicacy, the strong image that SUJEONG intends to adopt on stage should allow it to stand out from LOVELYZ. Although she did not participate in the composition of this first mini album, except for the title “ZZ“, she confess that she paid great attention to the production of all the titles to be able to appropriate them. In addition, she was finally able to realize her desire which was to color her hair in an extravagant color, her choice falling on blue to again stand out from the dancers and her image in the group.
« The difficult part was to show a hard and strong image, usually used to being cute on stage. Fortunately the group members supported and advised me a lot when I feared that I would not be able to succeed. » – RYU SUJEONG
She is therefore very grateful to the members and everyone around her for her solo debut. She admits that during the discussion on her debut, it was not planned that “Tiger eyes” was the title song, but after consultation with its producers and its agency, it was decided that it was the best choice to put highlight her unusual voice. However, her mini album also consists of ballads and sweeter tracks.

It will be a first for her to carry out promotions alone on stage and hopes to take advantage of these moments while having fun, surrounded by her dancers to highlight her. She also hopes that her title will appeal to many people, and that at the end of the summer it will still be heard, her song being favorable for this season according to her. The goal she wants to achieve as a solo artist and one day to hold her own concert as a soloist, but SUJEONG realizes that for that, she will have to work hard.
Saddened, the Covid-19 prevents her from coming to meet her fans during promotions during music shows or during fansigns. She then returns to the preparation of the clip where she reveals that she was particularly stressed because she wanted to be her own stylist, being passionate about fashion. She was thus worried that her blue hair did not match the clothes she decided to wear or that her outfits did not correspond to the concept of her beginnings wanting to be charismatic.

The young woman is often asked about the difference between her career with LOVELYZ, which started in 2014 and her future solo career. The experience acquired over the past six years is a strength for her because she is used to being in front of the cameras so acting accordingly.
« The musical imprint of my group may be different from that which I adopt today, I do not intend to deny the style that I have interpreted for several years. » – RYU SUJEONG
She confesses that she does not have a particular model for her debut, but realized that she was very surrounded, naming in particular Suyun of ROCKET PUNCH, supporting her in particular by regularly offering her to eat together so that she could relax during the preparations for her album. Hearing in several titles only her voice destabilized as much as enchanted the young woman, which gave her even more desire to work to provide quality.

During LOVELYZ concerts, she had already been able to offer some solo performances, trying to draw inspiration from the singer Arianna Grande, surprising the fans who discovered other sides of the artist. It is therefore no surprise that they were able to discover the concept adopted by SUJEONG for “Tiger eyes“. She has prepared in advance many titles in various styles for the rest of her career which, she hopes, will be flourishing, especially genres never explored by her group. For this album, she was very inspired by the career of Taemin ofSHINee who knew how to find a strong place both in her group and at the same time as a solo singer. He could therefore be closer to her model for her debut.
She comes back to the fact that as a child, she used to cry while watching musical performances on television saying that she wanted to be on stage. So she went back into her memories to recall the concepts that at the time she wanted to explore. These beginnings are therefore very important for her, who claims to have no distinction between the person she is in LOVELYZ and the one she is as a solo singer because these two people are an integral part of her personality.

« My makeup in the “Tiger eyes” clip was chosen to highlight my eyes and make it as fierce and intimidating as a tiger. » – RYU SUJEONG
She was delighted to see the power of accessories that give weight to an outfit that may seem simple at first glance. Laughing, the young woman tells us that since the announcement of her debut, the members of the group have fun calling her “tigress” in a loving and cute way, and that, as fans of SUJEONG, they have held not to watch the clip in preview to keep the surprise like everyone else. They were then particularly surprised when they discovered the teasers, having the impression of seeing someone being unknown to them. It is with these last words that she closes the interview with a smile and thanks those impatiently waiting for her.

Ce premier album se compose de sept titres :
- « Be cautious »
- « Tiger eyes » : The title track of this first solo album compares the eyes of an attractive opposite person to those of a tiger and describes a process of deep and powerful immersion. The charming voice of the artist adds a dreamy feeling to the pop title, composed by Sean Alexander, Mayu Wakisaka and Phil Schwan.
- « Call back » : R&B 3-beat rhythm song with minimal composition, modernly arranged to enhance the voice and emotional tone of SUJEONG.
- « Your name » : It is a ballad with delicate melodic lines where the mature emotion of the singer can be felt.
- « 42= » : It’s a song that contains the emotions of spring and the worries of love. the title is like a mathematical formula, love being complicated like solving complex mathematical problems.
- « Na, Ni » : It’s a song about a girl who lives her first love and who tries to get closer to the one she loves a little more each day.
- « ZZ » : It is the first self-composed song by SUJEONG, and the lyrics speak of wanting to spend more time with loved ones by asking them to sing a lullaby. It’s like a nice lullaby that combines an emotional piano melody with a warm guitar sound and a deep bass echo. The melody at the end of the barley gives the impression that the title comes from a mysterious fairy tale.

Her first performance will be held on the 21st on M! Countdown. So she asks you to support her for this big step in her career. She is obviously very impatient, her smile widening when speaking of this very first performance. She would like with this album to arouse the curiosity of her fans and all other people about the rest of her career, hoping at the same time to bring more visibility to LOVELYZ.
