SPILL THE BEAT : No limit for JOERYUK

Today SPILL THE BEAT collaborates with JOERYUK, an artist who got our curiosity with his very special musical touch and who fits very well with his stage name, straight from the manga DEATH NOTE.

~ Artist with many talents :

JOE Han-Jun, first began to develop his talents in the art of dance, more precisely as a B-boy. It is within the group LAST MINUTE CREW that he begins his art where he blooms every day without getting tired. But as a result of an injury, the practice proved increasingly difficult.

“When B-BOY’s fun was fading due to injury, my close friend wrote a joke about how to make music. […] It was so much fun.” – JEORYUK

The art of B-boy and musical creation are rather connected. The b-boys must create elaborate and creative choreographies on a beat they discover on the moment. And the same goes for artists who produce lyrics and chords through productions.

Often compared to the RYUK character of the animated DEATH NOTE since his early childhood, he took a taste for this nickname that he has used for about 6 years. Because yes, it’s been almost 6 years since JEORYUK started in music.

His first official single “BLAMED” was released on July 21, 2017 and since then he has been producing on different music streaming platforms. We can count as official releases 1 full album, 4 mixtapes and 3 singles albums.

It is easy to see that JOERYUK is an artist who does things with his heart. His tracks do not correspond to any standard of the hiphop and his experience of life shows that his opinion and his personality asserted.

Always interested in hiphop, the artist knew how to develop his critical sense and his ability not to be satisfied with a simple hiphop sound.

He is very inspired by the famous American rapper KANYE WEST. And if JOERYUK could do a collaboration with an artist, he responds in a direct and effective way: SEON WU JEONG AH (SWJA) a famous lyricist and composer of a rather jazz style. From this influence of KANYE WEST and this dream collaboration, we can conclude that JOERYUK is an artist who knows how to diversify and who is open to the world around him.

This is his music, even after joining EMBER RECORDS in July 2020, shortly after its creation.

“First, I contacted him […] I thought it was a great challenge for me who wanted to exchange a lot.” – JOERYUK

The label, which now has 16 artists, is developing and has many projects in view. (And some artists of the same label have been under the watchful eye of SPILL THE BEAT for several months, maybe you will soon see articles on other of their artists!)

When JOERYUK unveils projects such as mixtapes or albums, we can say that he does not do things half way. A minimum of 10 titles per comeback is well above the average of the 10 titles per year.

~ New developments for 2021 :

This year 2021, the artist has not yet planned a mixtape plan but rather gone on more singles.

“Actually, I’m still working on a single album rather than a mixtape, and I’m planning to upload a song on SoundCloud from time to time.” – JOERYUK

One can feel in JOERYUK this research of experimentation and his curiosity.

“I’m going to try a trap that I’ve never done before, Drill and Chill.” – JOERYUK

His latest production is a 15-track mixtape entitled “#전시회_서른후이념” (#Exposition_Philosophie de trentenaire) which was released on November 2, 2020.

“I really like to go to exhibitions or museums. Since I couldn’t go due to pandemic, I projected the idea of exhibiting myself under the theme of “If I make a mixtape with the idea of installing it with music, wouldn’t it be a different approach?”” – JOERYUK

Regarding its plans for 2021, JOERYUK is pleased to announce a release for the month of February:

“We’re preparing a lot of songs. EMBER RECORDS‘ Compilation album will be released in February. We’ve prepared a lot of songs and music videos, so please look forward to it.” – JOERYUK
