KWON EUNBI: A first mini-album

KWON EUNBI from WOOLLIM ENTERTAINMENT, unveils her first mini album during an online showcase held on YouTube.

The Showcase begins with the release of a teaser featuring the young singer who is presenting her first album “OPEN”. Her face is probably familiar to you since she was part of the short-lived girl group IZ*ONE as the leader, after the group disbanded in April of this year. EUNBI admits to being stressed about her solo debut, but is relieved to have slept well last night to be able to present impeccable performances for this showcase. Now that the artist is alone on stage, she wants to reveal who she is deep down, and for the audience to discover this new side alongside her. To do this, this first album covers different musical styles and genres; pop, acoustic, electro and jazzy. In addition, EUNBI participated in the writing of some of the songs, alongside BABY SOUL from the group LOVELYZ of the same agency. Her debut is therefore highly anticipated by IZ*ONE fans, saddened by the group’s separation.

The artist begins by introducing each of the tracks on this first album, six in number. The first is the eponym of the album’s title, since it is called “Open”: this song represents the opening of a new world for the singer as a solo artist, who will be able to reveal and explore new musical genres never experienced under IZ*ONE. The second track is the title song of this album; “Door”. This is followed by “Amigo” in collaboration with BABY SOUL of LOVELYZ, where the young woman rejects feelings of love that can be painful. The fourth track is called “Blue eyes“, highlighting EUNBI’s overflowing confidence after focusing on her abilities and what she wanted to do with her life. The penultimate song, “비 오는 길,” is a nostalgic ballad that immerses us in feelings long forgotten. Finally, the album ends with “Eternity’” which thanks the people who believe in her and support her in this new perspective as a solo artist. Once the introduction is over, EUNBI introduces the performance of the song “Blue eyes,” where we find her as if she is diving into an ocean, surrounded by whales to echo the “color of her eyes.”

The music video for the title track “Door” depicts the young woman as Alice in Wonderland, discovering a new world. The key point of the choreography is when she mimes a secret, putting her index finger in front of her lips while singing “No one knows our relationship”. In addition, another moment of the dance shows her presenting her hands like cat paws. The music video is then broadcast, just before the performance of “Door”. We find the young woman surrounded by butterflies and clouds in an imaginary world, like Alice. One part of the choreography particularly attracts attention, as EUNBI walks and swings in the air, supported by her dancers. The young woman then takes the time to answer a few questions, including about the other members of IZ*ONE. EUNBI then reveals that the members attended the filming of the music video, and met him earlier before the showcase to show their support.

She believes that what creates a good solo artist and her ability to perform in various musical genres is her ease of communication with her fans. She reveals that her role model is the singer BOA who has an impressive career at her age, and defines her musical color as red. Being only at the beginning of her solo career, she claims to still have many styles to explore in order to discover which one will suit her best. She also pays attention to the contents of the fan letters she receives, to know which concept she should try in the future. EUNBI takes the opportunity to thank her fans who allow her to have confidence in herself by reminding her of her journey.
