JUNKYU, vocalist of boy group TREASURE, celebrates his birthday today. This young boy with his particular tone of voice is talked about a lot for his spontaneity and his constantly happy mood.
JUNKYU has been known to South Korean audiences from a young age as he acted for numerous commercials before auditioning for YG Entertainment. In 2017, he participated in the interagency survival MIXNINE, but unlike his comrades HYUNSUK, BX and SEUNGHUN (currently members of the boy group CIX) he ended up badly classified and it remains a bad experience for him. He then lost confidence in his abilities and his potential as an idol.
However, the agency keeps him and makes him participate the following year in the survival YG TREASURE BOX, whose goal is to select the boys who will be part of his next group. This time, he got off to a better start by being noticed very quickly for his particular grain of voice which allows him to take up English songs with ease. JUNKYU can finally regain confidence, especially since it has been selected several times in the elite survival group (whose composition could evolve from test to test depending on the jury’s feedback on the performance of each candidate).
In the final, he ran for the position of vocalist, competing with YEDAM and JEONGWOO. The trio covered the song “Last dance” from their elders, the boy group BIGBANG. Their performance deeply moved the audience as well as the jury and JUNKYU’s performance, whether it was his stage presence or his interpretation, allowed him to land his place in the final group TREASURE on January 18, 2019.
In addition to having remarkable capacities in singing, JUNKYU also marked the spirits by its beauty and its joie de vivre. He is nicknamed “Koala” because his face and his personality have many similarities with the animal. The koala has also become his signature emoji on social networks.
JUNKYU is a simple, homebody boy. Sleeping and eating punctuate most of his days, which makes him the perfect opposite of the HYUNSUK leader.
