HONGJOONG : ATEEZ’s leader and songwriter

This November 7, we are celebrating HONGJOONG‘s birthday.

HONGJOONG is known to be a singer, rapper, dancer, songwriter, lyricist and ATEEZ‘s leader. He is calm, a hard worker et always takes care of the other members as if they were from his own family. He wanted to be a singer in order to express his way of thinking and deliver messages for the young generation. He is the best at speaking in English because he watched a lot of shows such as “Modern Family”. He is also a big fan of the Minions and even has clothes that represent them.

In October 2017, KQ’s trainees participated in a survival show entitled “MIXNINE”. HONGJOONG belonged to the four trainees who passed the audition and ranked 7th during the show’s showcase before being eliminated.

Before being a member of ATEEZ, he belonged to the KQ Fellaz, a project created by the company to promote its male trainees. Many videos were released to promote them and show the end of their trainee days when they had to go to take dance class in Los Angeles at the “Millennium Dance Complex”. At this time, the eight trainees became popular thanks to the video under which quickly gained one million views. People praised them for their amazing level and unique dance style for a rookie boy group.

On October 24, 2018, the trainees from ATEEZ, released a first mini-album under the theme “TREASURE” which was a theme used for the group’s first comebacks. After the released of title-song “Pirate King” and “Say My name”, the group promoted with a side-track entitled “HALA HALA” which was a huge success among fans.

In 2019, ATEEZ sold-out its American and European tour concerts which is a record for a rookie k-pop group. HONGJOONG, as for the other members of ATEEZ, had many comebacks in 2019 and they ended their serie of comebacks on the theme “TREASURE” with title-song “Answer” in January 2020.

Comeback after comeback, HONGJOONG worked a lot to keep on releasing the best songs and performances for the fans. He and MINGI participated many times in ATEEZ‘ songwriting and lyrics and HONGJOONG already composed many songs that are not released yet. He is a really talented artist which is a good rapper, dancer and also singer who shows the best side of himself on stage. His great singing voice was heard many times as when he revealed an audio guide or when he did a cover from another artist.

In July 2020, ATEEZ announced making a comeback which was really awaited by the fans since it was the beginning of the new theme “FEVER”. In July 29, 2020, the members released a new mini-album and promoted with title-songs “Inception” and “Thanxx” which made them win another first win on a music show.

Later, the group took part, in early 2021, in the Mnet program called “KINGDOM: Legendary War” in which six boy groups had to create unique performances for several months in order to be the winning team. ATEEZ being the youngest group, the members were pampered by the other teams. HONGJOONG notably had several interactions with the other artists, who complimented the young group on numerous occasions. Indeed, ATEEZ showed breathtaking performances especially for the first round in which the group covered its own song “WONDERLAND” to create a pirate version with the help of dancers and the use of props. A few months later, the group, led by HONGJOONG, ended the show at the third place.

The popularity of show “KINGDOM: Legendary War” created a serie of comebacks in mid 2021. ATEEZ came back with the promotion of the new song “Deja Vu” which allowed the members to show new sides of themselves to progress and attract more and more of fans. Even if HONGJOONG is an incredible rapper, he still impress with his presence on stage and his great dance style as well as the other members of ATEEZ.
