Singer PSY’s music video for “Gangnam Style” has surpassed 5 billion views on YouTube for the first time in K-pop history.

According to PNATION, the music video for “Gangnam Style” uploaded to PSY’s official YouTube channel reached 5 billion and 25 million views on December 30 (1 p.m. KST).
“Gangnam Style” is the title song of PSY’s sixth studio album “Psy6甲 Part 1“, released in July 2012, and it is a megahit that made PSY become the first K-pop singer to rank second on the main Billboard HOT 100 chart for seven weeks.
The music video for “Gangnam Style” became the first YouTube content to surpass 1 billion views and 2 billion views, changing the way views on YouTube are counted. Additionally, the number of views has been steadily increasing for 11 years, leaving an unusual record.
Besides “Gangnam Style“, PSY also demonstrates overwhelming power on YouTube with a number of hits released, including 1.5 billion for “Gentleman”, 820 million for “오빤 딱내 스타일“, 360 million for “Hangover “, 700 million for “Daddy”, 290 million views for “New face” and 130 million views for “I luv it“.
PSY said through his agency: “The first day I reached 10 million views, I had a big party with my colleagues and dreamed of 50 million views,” adding: “I’m 100 times happier than I ever dreamed.”
PSY successfully completed its “All Night Stand 2023” concerts from December 22 to 24 and will also bring joy to fans around the world through various activities in 2024.
