SONG MINHO
WINNER’s SONG MINHO is caught in another controversy regarding his painting “그림 먹튀.” However, the gallery that was in charge of selling the painting claimed that the buyer made an unreasonable request.

On JTBC’s “Crime Chief” broadcast on January 24, buyer “A” reported that he had purchased SONG MINHO‘s painting two years ago but had not received it.
According to the program, “A” purchased a giraffe painting titled “I thought” for 25 million won at SONG MINHO‘s first private exhibition in December 2022. The work was originally scheduled to be delivered in February 2023 after the exhibition ended, but the gallery delayed the delivery of the work due to the overseas exhibition schedule.
In addition, “A” said that he was informed by the curator that SONG MINHO had decided not to sell the painting. He also stated that the work was what SONG MINHO had to give to a famous singer. In response, SONG MINHO claimed that the gallery had made a mistake by stating, “The gallery in charge of consignment sales sold the work without the artist’s consent.”
“A,” who had already paid, filed a civil lawsuit, and the gallery said, “The curator, who was not very experienced, reacted and made a mistake.” He also argued that the contract had not been signed normally, stating, “SONG MINHO‘s works exhibited at that time were scheduled to be exhibited overseas, and it was uncertain whether they would be sold due to the artist’s enlistment.“
The trial court ruled in favor of “A” and ordered to “deliver the painting to A and pay 25 million won for the inability to execute the delivery of the painting.” Since then, the buyer has been demanding 40 million won as settlement with the delivery of the work. “A” said, “The legal fees alone cost tens of millions of won during the legal proceedings, and also for other litigation preparation costs and moral damages.”
However, the gallery, which is involved in the case, insisted on the buyer’s unreasonable demand through various media outlets on January 25. The gallery said, “We have been trying to refund the price of the painting to “A” for two years.” In the meantime, he stated that he was raising an issue in order to get more money.
The gallery stated that a confirmation process was necessary to limit the act of reselling works by buyers, and that there was controversy, claiming that “the address of ‘A’ was unclear and his identity was not revealed accurately.“
In addition, it raised suspicions that “it is doubtful that he is using the name of the famous person SONG MINHO.”
