KRIS WU
Rumors are circulating that KRIS WU (WU YIFAN, former member of EXO, 35), currently incarcerated in a Chinese prison after being sentenced to 13 years for sexual crimes, has died behind bars.

Taiwanese outlet Mirror Media reported on the 13th that “rumors claiming Wu Yifan has died are rapidly spreading online, mainly on the Chinese internet.” (Article)
According to these reports, a man claiming to be Wu Yifan’s cellmate stated that he had “heard from guards that Wu Yifan had suddenly died,” adding that “rumors are circulating that he may have lost his life after being assaulted by members of a local gang.”
This is not the first time rumors about his death have surfaced. Last March, when the Canadian government announced that “four Canadian citizens had been executed in China for drug trafficking,” some speculated that Wu Yifan might have been one of them. However, since he had never been charged with drug trafficking, the claim was quickly dismissed.
Other rumors also spread, including claims that he had died after a long hunger strike, but none of these reports have ever been confirmed.
Wu Yifan was accused of sexually assaulting three women, including a minor, using a similar pattern of behavior, most notably raping an intoxicated woman at his home in December 2020. He was also charged for obscene acts committed in 2018 with an accomplice and two women at his residence.
In July 2021, he was placed in criminal detention for rape before being tried. The People’s Court of Chaoyang District in Beijing sentenced him in the first trial to 11 years and 6 months for rape, and 1 year and 10 months for participating in group obscene acts. After completing his sentence, he will be deported from China.
