MARTIN of CORTIS has won fans’ hearts with his captivating tone and musical conviction.
On December 16, MARTIN appeared on the YouTube channel KBS Kpop show “Limousine Service”. He opened the session with “Lullaby” from CORTIS’ album, then performed songs from various genres including Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking out loud,” Lee Juck’s “그땐 미처 알지 못했지,” BIGBANG’s “하루하루,” and Se So Neon’s “난춘 (亂春),” demonstrating his versatile talent. His soft, rhythmic voice, youthful timbre, and dynamic expressions, described by host Lee Mujin as “the highlight of the music”, captivated viewers.
MARTIN shared, “I’m currently working on the second album,” sparking fans’ curiosity, and provided detailed insights into his music. Asked why he chose to become an idol despite his composing skills, he replied: “Composing is enjoyable, but the ultimate thrill is performing on stage. The adrenaline from the audience’s applause is addictive.” During his trainee period, MARTIN contributed to six tracks: “Deja vu” and “Miracle” by TOMORROW X TOGETHER, “Beautiful strangers” and “Outside” by ENHYPEN, “Pierrot” by LE SSERAFIM, and “Magnetic” by ILLIT.
He also explained how CORTIS developed its identity as the “Young Creator Crew,” creating music, choreography, and videos together:
“During our trainee days, we wanted to form a crew and build our own culture. Even before being selected for the group, we gathered to work on music and film clips. After the group formed, participating in album production came naturally.”
MARTIN sent a message to fans: “We will continue to show cool and positive sides. We hope our ‘COER’ (fandom) will stay with us strongly and for a long time.” He also shared his ambition: “The Best New Talent award can only be won once. I see it as a starting point for my career and will work hard to earn it.”
As he hoped, CORTIS won the “Best New Artist” trophy at the 2025 MAMA AWARDS, as well as two awards at the 10th Anniversary Asia Artist Awards 2025: “AAA Rookie of the Year” and “AAA Best Performance,” solidifying their position as the year’s top new talent.
Additionally, according to the latest Billboard chart (December 20), CORTIS’ debut album “COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES” rose to #4 on the World Albums chart, remaining for 14 consecutive weeks. In the U.S., it ranked #32 in Top Current Album Sales.
