BTS has broadcast the melody of “Arirang” to the whole world through the animation of their 5th studio album.

The agency BIGHIT MUSIC published, on March 13 at 11 a.m. KST, on the official social networks of BTS, an animation containing the message of the new opus “ARIRANG”. It also stated: “We wanted to transmit the story related to this song to those who do not know ‘Arirang’ well. We hope that many people can sympathize with the unique emotion of Korea that is imbued in this song.”
The video begins by highlighting seven young men gathered in front of a phonograph in 1896. When they turn the spring of the phonograph, the melody of “Arirang”, a representative folk song of Korea, escapes from it. Later, after crossing the Pacific Ocean on a huge ship, they record the song in an unknown foreign country and play it to the local inhabitants.
Then, the setting moves to contemporary times and BTS appears on stage. The members (Jin, Suga, J-hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) perform a passionate performance to the cheers of the audience in a concert hall where purple lights wave. The animation ends with a scene where BTS, transmitting hope and comfort through music, stands proudly in front of Gwanghwamun.

This video was inspired by the record indicating that “Arirang” was recorded for the first time in Washington, United States, in 1896. By taking this historical moment as a motif, it highlights the journey of BTS which contributes to making Korean culture known worldwide.
BTS unveiled for the first time a group photo for the new album “ARIRANG” at the same time as the animation. The members revealed a sophisticated look in costumes that recall the seven people in the video.
BTS will release their fifth studio album “ARIRANG” on March 20 at 1:00 p.m. Chairman BANG SI HYUK took charge of executive production and the album will include 14 songs illustrating the “BTS of today”. On the 21st, the day after the release, they will organize a comeback concert in the surroundings of Gwanghwamun Square. This stage will be broadcast live worldwide on Netflix.
