The song “Swim” by the group BTS became the first among tracks published this year across the world to reach 500 million streams.

The title song “Swim” from BTS‘s 5th regular album “ARIRANG” (아리랑), released this past March, exceeded 500 million cumulative plays (as of May 26) on Spotify, the global audio and music streaming platform.
“Swim” is a track containing the love of life and the determination to swim at one’s own pace without stopping, even in the midst of the rough waves of existence. RM participated in the entirety of the lyrics writing, translating the “BTS of today” into text.
BTS won the “Song of the Summer” award with “Swim” this past May 25 (local time) at the American Music Awards, one of the three major pop music award ceremonies in the United States. BTS shared their impressions, declaring:
“We send love and encouragement to everyone who continues to swim in any situation. Let’s keep swimming”.
After entering at the 1st place of Billboard’s main songs chart in the United States, the “Hot 100” (dated April 4), “Swim” has maintained its presence in the chart for 8 weeks so far, pursuing long-term success. On the British Official Singles Chart Top 100 published this past March 28 (dated March 27 to April 2), it climbed to 2nd place, establishing a new record unique to the team. It also kept the 1st place for 4 consecutive weeks on Spotify’s “Weekly Top Songs Global”.
Beyond the title song, the b-side tracks are all achieving remarkable results. The entirety of the 14 tracks included in the album exceeded 100 million streams on Spotify. Even the Interlude track “No. 29”, which contains the sound of the Divine Bell of King Seongdeok, National Treasure of the Republic of Korea No. 29, crossed 100 million plays. “Body to body” and “Hooligan” recorded 200 million streams as of May 13 and May 26 respectively.
