Published in May 2021, the music video for “Butter” crossed 1.1 billion views on YouTube on July 27 at 2 AM KST. BTS thus holds its seventh music video to reach 1.1 billion views in total, after “Dynamite”, “Boy with luv (Feat. Halsey) (작은 것들을 위한 시)”, “DNA”, “Mic drop (Steve Aoki remix)”, “Fake love”, and “Idol”.
The music video alternates between black and white and color, staging a performance using suits and casual outfits. Gestures consisting of slicking hair back, kisses blown from the hand, and footwork choreography constitute the key points. At the time of its release, it surpassed 100 million views in about 21 hours, establishing at the time the record for the fastest K-pop MV to reach this figure.
“Butter” is the second English single by BTS, published after “Dynamite”. It debuted at No. 1 on the main singles chart of Billboard in the United States, the “Hot 100”, dated June 5, 2021, and registered as the 10th song overall to rise to No. 1 for BTS. It then remained ranked for 20 weeks.
