A person claiming to have been the middle school homeroom teacher of WONI, a member of the girl group RESCENE, publicly defended the singer against school bullying allegations that appeared online.
The alleged teacher’s remarks came after a post was published on an online community on Saturday, in which a person indicating they were a middle school classmate of WONI wrote that the singer had been part of a group of bullies. The post quickly spread online.
Another user, claiming to have been WONI‘s homeroom teacher during her second and third years of middle school, contested the accusations this Sunday.
He also published photos and screenshots of a page from the middle school yearbook showing the singer’s profile, a letter reportedly written by WONI when she was a student, his messages with fellow teachers, and the school’s previous bullying prevention campaign as proof that he had been the singer’s teacher.
“Please, stop these unfounded attacks. WONI was an exemplary student who served as a student council representative and actively participated in school bullying prevention campaigns.” wrote the user.
The accuser deleted their account a day after publishing the accusations.
The alleged teacher then deleted his profile on Sunday after publishing a final message explaining that the account would be deleted because the matter seemed to have been resolved.
“Everyone makes mistakes and can unintentionally hurt others. Rather than blaming ourselves for not being perfect, we should encourage each other to become better tomorrow. [Remember that] you must understand yourself first before you can understand the words and actions of others.” wrote the user.
He also cited a Confucian proverb, when three people walk together, there is always someone to learn from, and noted that a willingness to learn means approaching those who teach us with an open heart.
“I believe that a willingness to learn means breaking down the walls around our hearts and approaching those who can teach us. I hope we will all learn to love ourselves first and live lives in which that love overflows and becomes compassion for others.” wrote the user.
WONI debuted as a member of RESCENE in March 2024 with the mini-album “RE:SCENE”. The group consists of five members : ZENA, MAY, LIV, MINAMI, and WONI.
