A rather rare moment in the korean boyband’s and girlband’s universe as today, July 19th, co-ed group KARD debuts officially.
KARD, consisting of 2 girls — Jeon Somin and Jeon Jiwoo — and 2 boys — BM and J.seph — has released a first track, “Oh nana“, on December 12, 2016. DSP Media, the group’s agency, bet to make this new mixed group work, starting with a first fans showcase, the same month.
The group then continues its journey, moving forward one step at a time. The sounds of their next songs, “Don’t recall” et “Rumor“, attracts more the foreign audience, which shows its enthusiasm for the band. All of KARD’s videos reaches more than 10 million views on their channel.
But who are KARD? What makes their originality and their particularity?
The name K.A.R.D is explained by the fact the “K” represents the King (BM), the “A” the Ace (J.seph), the “R” identifies the two jokeRs (Somin et Jiwoo) and last, the “D” comes from the word hiDDen, because, for each one of their songs, there is a hidden version of it.
In the first one, “Oh nana“, the members are joined by Hur Young Ji, for “Don’t recall“, they have released an all English version and for “Rumor“, they made a dance version with artist Z.SUN.
During questions from the journalists, BM brings out his American side and points out his particularity, which is the:

J.seph, then, makes the journalists laugh greatly with his naturalness and his famous:
“Korean swag”
Following a quick introduction, KARD, who are performers, continue with their 3 first pre-debut projects.
Some live performances where all the journalists were able to appreciate the vocal skills of the 4 singers.
The group then goes on with a photo time and a Q&A with the journalists. The questions are mainly centered on the fact the group quickly went to perform overseas.
Indeed, KARD have released their first song “Oh nana” in Korea, but, due to lyrics issues, they could not participate in korean music tv shows. The group then went on to work on their next tracks and very soon the foreign public became interested. In a very short time, the group became the international phenomenon and flew for a first “American Tour” (USA, Canada, Brazil …), in May 2017, which met a huge success.
For the members, being a co-ed group may have frightened initially, because it is not common, but in the end it is a huge benefit, as they can mix the advantages of a boy group and those of a girl group.
They actually want, later, to be able to perform just between boys or just girls. So to show everyone’s abilities on different types of songs.
When journalists ask what they would like to do next, the members answer they want to go play in clubs, to be closer to their public.
To end this debut showcase, KARD present their first mini-album’s title and main song, “Hola Hola“.
A very summery track, with a simple and light choreography, allowing each one to let its mind and body fly to the blue sky above. The title “Hola Hola“, which means “Bonjour” in Spanish, was chosen because it is a positive word, easy to pronounce by all, wether it is in Korean, English or any other language, everyone can say it.
KARD were able to convince the press present by performing with great energy and bringing the journalists into their world.
Group KARD has finally revealed its game and has taken the hand.
