Jackson Wang - LMLY
Global megastar JACKSON WANG returns with his first solo single of 2021, “LMLY”, via 88rising, distributed by 12Tone Music LLC.
Two months after the release of “Alone” , JACKSON WANG unveils his first single of 2021, “LMLY” – abbreviated for “Leave me loving you“.
To complement this opus, the singer revealed the music video to “LMLY” where he plays the role of a dishwasher who falls in love with a young woman who regularly visits the restaurant where he works. The young man is shown imagining spending time with her, but ends up heartbroken as she comes back to the restaurant with her future husband.
Keeping to the style and inspiration of Hong Kong Chinese movies that he grew up watching, this MV comes after “Pretty please” that he released last September 2020. This time however, he decided to treat the video as a movie, rather than focusing on the performance aspect as he has done with his previous pieces.
“‘LMLY’ is a continuous concept from my single, “Pretty please“, but with a different love story,” said Jackson on “LMLY”. “This one is about me and a girl falling deeply in love, but there’s kind of a plot twist towards the end that viewers might not have seen coming. Visually, everything is in the same zone, same time period of “Pretty please“, but the technique we used to film “LMLY” was interesting and very fresh to us.”
Commited to his artistic creations, JACKSON scripted the music video entirely and took part in the directing process in collaboration with Mamesjao. Many artists from Sublime Artist Agency appeared in the cast, including Jamie (Yeze Kee 기예지) who played the role of the young woman. The MV is followed by a behind-the-scene footage where we can see the production team as well as music producers who regularly work with him, including BOY TOY, Oneway Peter and Oneway Young Sky.
As for the musical side, “Leave me loving you” is credited to JACKSON, Michael Matosic, Pablo Bowman, Peter Rycroft and Richard Boardman for the composition, and to LOSTBOY and The Six for the production. These artists have worked with numerous singers all around the world such as KAI, Louis Tomlinson, Little Mix and Kehlani. In the past, Pablo Bowman and LOSTBOY also worked on “100 Ways“, the song that marked the start of the Chinese and Hong Kong inspired series of MVs.
Last September, JACKSON teamed up with multi-platinum dance-pop duo Galantis to release the dance anthem “Pretty please“. The accompanying music video was also directed, written, and edited by JACKSON himself. The song and video have garnered 75M streams to date, reached #3 at US Dance Radio, and charted #9 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Sales Chart. JACKSON also made history last year with the release of “100 ways” as the first Chinese solo artist to ever chart the Mediabase’s Top 40 List when it landed at the 24th spot. Today, “100 ways” boasts more than 200M streams worldwide.
In October 2019, JACKSON released his critically acclaimed debut solo album, “MIRRORS“, via Western and 6th. “MIRRORS“, debuted at #32 on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest-charting solo artist debut from China, and collectively reached #1 on Billboard’s Independent Albums Chart, #2 on the Rap Album Sales Chart, #3 on the Digital Albums Chart, #4 on the Top Current Albums Chart and #4 Top Album Sales Chart.
In addition to collaborating with global artists such as Major Lazer, Swae Lee, GoldLink and Gucci Mane, JACKSON has amassed a devoted following that exceeds 64 Million fans across social platforms. JACKSON has also pierced the cultural zeitgeist as the face of global brands such as Fendi, Alibaba, Adidas, Cartier, Armani Beauty, Rayban, L’Oreal, Pepsi, and BMW in China, and recently launched his own TEAM WANG streetwear line.
