THE BOYZ - ERIC
On December 22nd, we are celebrating SOHN YOUNGJAE’s birthday, who is better known as ERIC from THE BOYZ.
ERIC is a lyricist, a singer, a dancer, a rapper and the youngest member from THE BOYZ. He is known for loving dogs, playing many sports as baseball, and for solving a rubik’s cube in less than one minute. Even if he is the youngest one, he is mature and he is the one who takes care of cleaning and telling the other members what to do to keep a clean dormitory. Moreover, ERIC lived in Los Angeles with his family from the age of 8 to 15 so he is now a perfect English speaker. He is THE BOYZ‘ member who shares the most messages and letters with the fans and his favorite sentence to the fans is “Always remember, Eric loves you”. He is also known for being a hard-worker and being always energetic reveiving the nickname of “EnergEric”. With SUNWOO, they are the youngest ones and the two rappers of the group, and they often work together to write rap parts and lyrics for THE BOYZ‘ songs.
ERIC changed the most as a young man and also as an artist. Indeed, he was really young when he debuted and he developped most of his skills after debuting. He even said that his strongest point was his endless potentiel for growing as an artist. He does not have a specific goal and prefers achieving little step by little step to become more and more skilled. He also usually says “Don’t go to sleep when you are tired, go to sleep when you’re done” showing his hard-working mindset. Year after year, he kept on becoming more handsome, as his co-members said, and attracting a lot of people’s attention on stage, for his good looks and for the many hair colors he tried.
He debuted as a member of THE BOYZ with a first title-song “Boy”, and then the group made many comebacks over the years without rest. They were able to show a cute, funny, cool, classy side of themselves. When the members released title-song “No air”, they became more and more cool and expressive on stage with more facial expressions and stage presence. This song was so popular that it brought a lot more new fans to the group who worked really hard in order to make THE BOYZ win a first trophy at a music show with title-song “Bloom Bloom”. At the end of 2019, during the “D.D.D” promotions, ERIC gathered people’s attention thanks to his blond hair color and American-looking style that suited him a lot.
2020 was THE BOYZ‘s year. Indeed, the eleven members of the group worked really hard in order to give their very best and win more and more popularity. They even showed their unique teamwork and more people started to love them. First, they made a comeback with a first album and title-song “Reveal” which brought a new kind of concept for the group. ERIC was able to show more sides of himself on stage over this year to gain a lot of confidence as an artist.
Then, in May 2020, THE BOYZ‘s agency decided to show who the members really are through short individual videos. They were able to express their thoughts and feelings in a simple set. Thanks to the video under, you can discover a calm and soothing ERIC explaining how he has many sides and can sometimes be energetic and sometimes a more sensitive person in a daily basis.
Between March and June 2020, THE BOYZ participated in the show “Road to Kingdom” in which seven k-pop boy groups had to create performances to become the finale winner. THE BOYZ‘s members were quickly popular for their amazing stages which were always more and more impressive. The group was the best for almost each episode and was even compared to a real dance crew and not as only a k-pop group. On June 2020, thanks to their teamwork and hard work, THE BOYZ‘s members released a new song “Checkmate” for the show’s final episode and ERIC had more lines and center parts than usual, showing his growing skills as for example when he had to do a sword fight with JACOB. This song’ succcess helped the group growing more and more and winning of the show. During “Road to Kingdom”, ERIC improved as a dancer, singer and rapper without being afraid to try acrobatics as for the performance under in which he had to trust the dancers and fall into their arms.
In september 2020, THE BOYZ decided to do a comeback following the incredible concepts tried during “Road to Kingdom” with title-song “The stealer”. It was a huge success and helped the group gaining many trophies and artists’ recognition. Once again, ERIC was courageous enough to learn acrobatics for the song’s MV alongside co-members JUYEON and JACOB.
The end of 2020 was symbolized by THE BOYZ performances for several end of the year shows. The members were able to show once again their great teamwork and even more for their MAMA stage. Indeed, they became mythological gods and performed two of their songs in an amazing and mesmerizing stage. The use of acrobatics, props, fire and so on made this stage a legendary one, the aim being to show that the group was ready for the upcoming show “Kingdom”.
ERIC was also a central member for most of THE BOYZ‘ performances during show “Kingdom”. He learnt new acrobatics and was energetic enough to be once again the group’s mood maker, encouraging the other members during tough moments. He was praised for his rapping skills and dancing style during the group’s performance on “Monster” by EXO. ERIC said this performance was the hardest one for him because he had to dance a lot but he did his best and it paid off. Many senior artists praised him for his solo rap part when he was on the head of a snake-like monster, and for his amazing stage presence. It once again shows ERIC‘s unlimited growth as an artist.
After the show, THE BOYZ made two comebacks which concepts are different from each other. The group wanted to release a new bubbly and energetic song with “THRILL RIDE”, then came back with a strong and dark song entitled “MAVERICK”, based on “Battle Royal”‘s concept. For each comeback, ERIC was able to show unique charms as a great artist. He even was the main character at the end of “MAVERICK”‘s MV, which was a honor for him.
Let’s wish a happy birthday to ERIC, a young man who is more talented as time passes by and who promises his fans that he will keep on growing as one of THE BOYZ‘s members.
