« HALA HALA (Hearts Awakened, Live Alive) », from the second ATEEZ’s mini-album called « TREASURE EP.2 : Zero To One » and out January 2019, have recently won popularity all around the world.
« HALA HALA », expressed « the first dream and the moment during the heart’s first beat ». The song is composed by an inverted chorus with voice effects and particularly high notes. It’s this unconventional concept received positives criticisms by nationals and internationals fans but also by industry’s professional judging member’s (HONGJOONG, SEONGHWA, YUNHO, YEOSANG, SAN, MINGI, WOOYOUNG, JONGHO) facials expressions as excellent. This song is accompanied by a charismatic choreography which greatly increases the mood of this song.
The members dressed up entirely in black with a mask and a Fedora hiding their identities marked ATINY (name of the fandom). In fact, this song became iconic with the arrival of new characters in ATEEZ universe. We will find them in other music videos such as « Answer » or in some performances such as « Symphony No.9 ‘from the wonderland’ » in MNET show « KINGDOM : legendary war » for example.
Thereby, in the showcase to celebrate the release of the group’s first full album « TREASURE EP.FIN : All To Action » in October 2019, ATEEZ said before his performance :
« As we have had a strong concept from the beginning, fans describe us as a « 퍼포먼스 맛집 (good restaurant of performance) », a « 마라맛 (Mara’s flavor) », or even a « 매운맛 (spicy’s flavor)»… We train a lot to express these things better, so we can work with more confidence. »
These terms refer to their energy on stage and their explosive performances such as delicious spicy dishes in a good Korean restaurant. In fact, for some time, ATEEZ has been cited quite often as a model by various new artists on the K-Pop scene, particularly for its impressive performances. For example, « HALA HALA » was selected for a test on an artist-training television show called Survival, elevating the song to the rank of difficult performance.
Also, recently, « HALA HALA » charted first on ITunes « Top Song Chart » in 13 countries, whose, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and the Philippines and eighth on « Worldwide iTunes Song Chart ». As for the second mini-album « TREASURE EP.2 : Zero To One », it appeared on ITunes « Worldwide iTunes Album Chart ». « HALA HALA » also charted first on Japan’s largest streaming platform, Recochoku, in « Recochoku K-Pop Genre Daily Chart », showing once again ATEEZ‘s growing renown all around the world.
This strong interest for « HALA HALA » also brought out the video of an « HALA HALA » performance in particular. Last year, ATEEZ appeared on JTBC’s « Knowing Bros After School Activities – Cosmic Hipster » to perform many of their iconic songs, including « HALA HALA ». Even a year later, this video has 12,000 comments complimenting the group’s performance :
« Ateez is something to focus on », « Their skills are on another level », « The force’s personification », or even « This is a video to watch regularly »…
Lastly, ATEEZ begins his European tour « THE FELLOWSHIP: BEGINNING OF THE END » on April 23 in Madrid, Spain, before heading to London, Paris and Amsterdam.
