KRIS, EXO former member tried for sexual assault in China, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
According to China Central Television (CCTV), on November 24, the Beijing 3rd Intermediate People’s Court rejected KRIS’s appeal for rape and mass obscenity earlier in the day and upheld the original sentence of 13 years in prison. China adopts a two-trial system, with the appeal trial being the final trial.
The court explained the reason for the conviction saying: “Given that many victims had sex while intoxicated, it is a crime of rape, gathering of people to engage in obscene activities, and being the main culprit, it is also a crime of collective obscenity.”
KRIS was accused of sexually assaulting three women in the same manner, including assaulting a drunk woman at his home in December 2020.
Earlier in July 2018, he was also accused of committing lewd acts with two women at his home with another person.
He has been the subject of an investigation and trial since his placement in criminal detention on July 31, 2021, for rape (provisional arrest by decision and direction of public security authorities).
During the first trial, KRIS was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison for rape and 1 year and 10 months for group corruption. He also ordered his deportation abroad once he has served his sentence.
