After eight years in the industry, SEVENTEEN clinches its first “Daesang” (prize) at the “2023 MAMA AWARDS“, marking a pivotal moment in its artistic journey.

SEVENTEEN (S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, Dino) was honored with the prestigious “Daesang” award at the “2023 MAMA AWARDS” in Japan, putting an end to an eight-year wait since its debut.
At the ceremony held on November 28 and 29 at the Tokyo Dome, SEVENTEEN claimed the “Album of the Year” award with its 10th mini-album, “FML“, securing the “Daesang” (“first award”) at the “MAMA AWARDS“. The group shone by winning a total of five awards, including “Worldwide Fans’ Choice“, “Best Male Group“, “Best Performer Male Group“, and “BIBIGO Culture and Style“.
This victory holds special significance, arriving eight years after its debut in May 2015. Upon being announced as the winners of “Album of the Year“, leader S.COUPS took the stage. Despite a temporary hiatus due to an injury, S.COUPS joined the group on stage, eliciting cheers from the audience.
S.COUPS shared his sentiments, stating, “Throughout our years as SEVENTEEN, we often wondered, ‘With the name SEVENTEEN, could we ever win this award?’ Thanks to our CARATs, we were able to renew our contract and win this award. We therefore want to dedicate this award to the CARATs.” These sincere words resonated deeply.
SEVENTEEN‘s album producer and member, WOOZI, added with gratitude, “It has now been 11 years since we started making music as SEVENTEEN. Thank you for rewarding us in this way. We will continue to work hard to deliver better music.” Finally, SEVENTEEN expressed its special love for international fans by sharing messages in English, Chinese, and Japanese.
The second day of the “2023 MAMA AWARDS” was marked by SEVENTEEN‘s captivating performance. With 80 dancers, it presented a mega-performance of “음악의 신” (“God Of Music”) and “손오공” (“Super”), transforming the Tokyo Dome into “SEVENTEEN‘s festival.”
Utilizing augmented reality (AR) for an overwhelming visual experience, SEVENTEEN radiated powerful energy with its performances of “음악의 신” (“God Of Music”) and “손오공” (“Super”). The group showcased its true potential as the “leaders of K-pop performance” with a 13-member dance break in the middle of the stage and personal dance breaks by THE8 that seemed to control the team. The audience, synchronized with the beats of “쿵 치 팍 치” (“Kung Chi Pakchi”, the sound of instruments and percussion referring to “음악의 신” (“God Of Music”)), responded to the group with almost enchanting cheers, creating a wave of applause that filled the entire venue.
SEVENTEEN continues to push its limits since its debut. With its latest mini-album, “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN“, it set a new record by surpassing 5 million copies sold in the first week, becoming the first K-pop artists to achieve this figure in the opening week. Even after eight years in the industry, SEVENTEEN continues to break various records, emerging as the hero of the “Daesang Album of the Year” at the “2023 MAMA AWARDS“.
The next step for SEVENTEEN is its largest dome tour in Japan titled “SEVENTEEN TOUR ‘FOLLOW’ TO JAPAN“, with concerts scheduled at the Nagoya Dome on November 30 and December 2nd-3rd, the Osaka Kyocera Dome on December 7th, 9th and 10th, and finally, the Fukuoka PayPay Dome on December 16th and 17th.
