MONSTA X‘s SHOWNU is making his musical theater debut with the upcoming production of “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,” according to his agency Starship Entertainment.

“This is my first time appearing in a musical, so I’m sure I will lack some reflexes for the role, but I will practice diligently and strive to put in a good performance”,
“I ask for support and love for the musical “Great Comet” and for my attempt to take on this new challenge as well.” SHOWNU said in his agency’s press release.
SHOWNU will take on the role of Anatole Kuragin, one of the three protagonists of the series. He will alternate the role with Vixx member Leo and actor Ko Eun Sung, according to local music production company ShowNote.
SHOWNU is the leader and main dancer of MONSTA X, but has also demonstrated impressive vocal skills throughout his career, notably in the solo and duet soundtracks “Have a good night” (2020) and “I’ll be there” (2020). He debuted as part of the group MONSTA X in 2015 which is today best known for its hit singles “Who do U love” (2019), “Hero” (2015) and “Dramarama” (2017).
The other main role of the musical, Pierre Bezukhov, will be alternated by K. Will, Ha Dokwon and Kim Julian Joo-taek; and Natasha Rostova by Lee Jisoo, Yoo Yeonjeong and Park Subin.
Based on the eighth part of Leo Tolstoy’s 1869 novel “War and Peace“, focusing on Natasha’s affair with Anatole and the search for meaning in her life, the musical “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812″ is written by composer and lyricist Dave Malloy and directed by Rachel Chavkin. The musical had its Broadway premiere in 2016 and first premiered in Korea with a Korean cast in 2021.
The upcoming Korean production of “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812″ is scheduled to open on March 26 and run until June 16 at the Universal Arts Center in Gwangjin District, eastern Seoul. Tickets are expected to go on sale on local ticketing platforms including Interpark and Yes24 on February 2.
