It is on the occasion of the release of its tenth mini album that the female group OH MY GIRL from WM ENTERTAINMENT welcomes us to share during an interview behind the scenes of its comeback with the album “DREAM RESONANCE“. Consisting of members HYOJUNG, YOOA, MIMI, SEUNGHEE, YUBIN, and ARIN, JIHO having left the group in May 2022, the group makes its awaited comeback with the song entitled “Classified“. The last comeback was then dated July 2023, with the summer title “Summer comes“. The group is already known for its many festive titles, such as “Dun dun dance” and “Dolphin“, so the anticipation of the fans is at its peak.
The main theme of this comeback is the dream, how not to have nightmares thanks to a doll, staying with people to protect them throughout the night. Songs in sub-units are also present on the album, with names “La la la la la“, “Sway (You & I)“, and “Love me like you do“, as well as titles “Start up” and “Heavenly“. Six tracks make up “DREAM RESONANCE“. In addition, members MIMI and HYOJUNG were involved in writing some of them.
The interview takes place several days before the official release of the album, the clip is not revealed to the reporters who made the trip for the event, but the title song and a medley is broadcast. The atmosphere of the album is fluffy, sweet and relaxing, contrasting with the choice of outfits used in some photo concepts that are red, checkered black. For another concept, the outfits are more magical, purple, with lace. The young women then go into the room, introducing themselves warmly to the press, and directly highlighting the excitement they feel in front of this expected comeback, which has a lot of surprises, and highlights the personality of each member, In particular, thanks to the songs in sub-units. Remembering their debuts, and the almost ten years since, the singers think they have grown in maturity, while keeping their concept mainly sparkling and bright. For this album, two key concepts are put forward, solitude and the force of cohesion. For the group, it is important to be able to comfort people and their fans feeling alone with their music.
The involvement of members in this album is quickly put forward, MIMI saying they have worked hard to convey the messages she had in mind, and that they are carriers of positive energy. It is a great first for her to start writing, and she hopes that her work will be praised. For HYOJUNG, she approached this composition as a new personal challenge, writing for the song in sub-unity that she shares with YOOA. YUBIN talks more about the concept of dolls, sometimes accompanying small and large in their daily lives to comfort them, and here, help them get out of a maze of nightmares so that only dreams remain in someone’s life. She visualized herself as a small stuffed dog, a common blanket, but precious for many children.
When the group discussed this comeback with the agency, SEUNGHEE first thought of the stuffed toy she had as a child that she always has at home, a little bear with an H on his sweater. She thought about the memories she had with this stuffed animal, to immerse herself more easily in the concept of this comeback. YUBIN focused on the emotions that gave her the will to move forward when she was younger, and it was music. Listening to music has given him the desire to embark on this career, and that vector can be represented in so many different objects or concepts as this song, and this album can in turn be a vector for someone else. For MIMI, the song “Classified” is the one that best represents the group, the personalities of the members, and puts the best forward their voices. YUBIN also selects ” Heavenly “, while HYOJUNG prefers ” Start up “, which brings energy to those listening.
The other members each choose songs in sub-units, making every song of this album find its preference in a member, and is put forward. YOOA particularly thanks HYOJUNG for writing the song “ Love me like you do”, which she sang alongside her. The duet recording sessions were a new experience for her, and left her with beautiful memories. They are asked about their emotions almost ten years after their debut. SEUNGHEE says that the group has become very natural in front of the cameras, that they have merged with their private and public personalities, and that their cohesion and authenticity is now their strength. Having worked together over the years, they have understood how to solve problems together, what is most appropriate for them, what they want to do, etc. They who did not think of reaching the ten years one day, now see themselves reach the twenty or thirty years as OH MY GIRL, the six singers forming only one. HYOJUNG defines this decade as “miraculous”, and is grateful for all the people who made it possible. They hope to have become an inspiring group for other younger groups, and again thank their participation in the show “KINGDOM” which brought them a great boost of popularity, and allowed them to test other concepts and create friendships.
YOOA still looks back from time to time to remember how hard they worked and where they are today. For MIMI, the showcase marking their debut is the strongest memory, making her aware of the evolution of the group. The group always wants to be known for its concept and songs, as a cute and delicate group with strong alchemy. Moreover, since their personalities always matched each other well, no major conflict or even scandal has occurred in the group’s career. Singers have a lot to experience, and it is always with pleasure that they share activities together on their day of rest, or sometimes alone to reassure themselves, and tell themselves that they no longer need to be accompanied in every moment of their life. Time has passed very quickly for them, but the three years, then the seven, and soon the ten years seem to be the most important and meaningful years for them. Their goal now is to become a global group, and to perform a tour or activities abroad.
The goal is certainly to be a global group, but above all to stay close to the fans, to bring them joy and comfort, and take pleasure on stage performing songs that please everyone. To select the title song for this album, they discussed which title would best represent the album and members among the three songs sung in group. Compared to their debuts, where they did one thing after another, they now dare to try different activities, whether through the group or solo. But the group is still a priority for them, as YOOA had said in a previous interview for her solo comeback. Love is a concept at the heart of OH MY GIRL’s concept, closely linked to comfort to support someone you care about, which singers do not hesitate to put forward in their albums.
Gradually, the group builds a solid foundation as OH MY GIRL but also as a full-fledged artist in solo activity. Members are grateful for all the support they receive on a daily basis from their fans, but also from their loved ones. In their daily lives, young women regularly contact each other, sharing many moments together, or sending each other messages every day. They are therefore very satisfied with the group of friends that they have become, and the group of idols that defines them, their cohesion being at its peak as the ten years of the group approach. SEUNGHEE even defines the group with the movie ” VICE VERSA “, different emotions forming one and the same body being here the group and its music. Making the reporters laugh, MIMI talks about the group’s defining moment when they sang in unit the song “Banana allergy monkey” which doesn’t seem to be a good memory for all members in view of their horrified expression.
ARIN then speaks for the first time during the interview, thanking the members who have always taken good care of her as the youngest member of the group. OH MY GIRL wants to convey the message that anything is possible for those who believe in it, whether alone or with a friend, but keep in mind that you are always important to someone in the world. HYOJUNG metaphorically sees the group as a tree that is growing and has the will to become a forest one day. It is also important not to forget the past, because it has forged the present and made possible where the group is today. With emotion, ARIN speaks of the group as her home, a precious place she wishes to protect from hardship. The past ten years are therefore most precious to young women, who have spent their twenties together, grateful for the people they have become through each other’s support.
The interview is more of a retrospective on the evolution of the group, which drew strength throughout its career. KSTATION TV has also wondered what the group’s goal would be next year, but similar to the answers previously given, nothing makes more sense for the group than to remain authentic and close to its fans, who have been able to bring them so much love over the years.
