Undergoing a major restructuring in line with its 2025 plans, the agency YG ENTERTAINMENT has decided to cease its film activities and concentrate exclusively on music.
Announced by the agency on 17 January, YG ENTERTAINMENT states:
“To focus on our primary business of music, we are reorganizing our business structure and discontinuing actor management,
We sincerely thank all the actors who have been with us and the fans who have shown unwavering support. We will do our utmost to provide necessary support until the very end.“
The closure will therefore take place gradually, and the actors and actresses who are part of the YG STAGE branch will not be made redundant or leave the agency at the same time; they will reach the end of their contracts but will not be renewed. For the time being, none of those concerned have communicated. YG STAGE had such big names as Lee Soo Hyuk, Jin Kyung, Lee Sung Kyong, Jang Hyun Sung and Park You Na.
The closure comes as something of a surprise, given that the agency had diversified into sectors other than entertainment. In 2022, the company closed the doors of YG Food, followed in the same year by YG Sports, which was a company providing golf facilities, as well as other sectors in which YG ENTERTAINMENT had invested.
In addition to these, the agency ended its dance management and academy activities under the YGX label.
