JESSI, KOALA
Rapper Koala, who was accused of assaulting a fan who asked to take a photo with singer JESSI, has finally spoken out, eight months after the incident.
On June 4, Koala posted a message on his social media in both Korean and English: “I apologize for not speaking up sooner. It took me some time, but I felt it was right to wait until everything was settled legally before addressing it.”
He continued, saying: “I sincerely apologize to the victim and their family. I wish I could have apologized in person, but I completely understand if you do not want to meet me directly. You should have never experienced this, and I deeply regret the pain I caused.” He added: “I also apologize to everyone affected, directly or indirectly, by this incident. I know I disappointed a lot of people, and I take this responsibility very seriously.”
Koala acknowledged: “This incident is entirely my responsibility. I wasn’t the first to use violence, but he was part of our group. Due to misunderstandings and poor judgment, the situation escalated, and I played a major role in that escalation. This shouldn’t have happened, and it’s entirely my fault.“
He further clarified: “I have accepted the consequences of my actions and continue to live with that responsibility. It hasn’t been easy, but it has given me time to reflect and grow. There are no excuses or blame to be placed on others. Only lessons learned.” He concluded by saying: “Today, I continue to reflect quietly and seriously, doing my best to become a better person.” He also mentioned that the case was now officially closed.
JESSI was involved in an assault case last September in the Apgujeong area of Seoul, where a minor fan, claiming to be a fan of JESSI, asked for a photo. However, a man from JESSI’s group suddenly assaulted him. The victim was diagnosed with a concussion and filed a complaint against four people present at the scene, including the assailant, who was still unknown at the time.
Facing accusations of inaction, JESSI posted a message on her social media and apologized to the victim. However, JESSI clarified that while she felt morally responsible, the incident had been caused by someone she had just met.
However, after surveillance footage was released, it was revealed that Koala, a rapper and producer close to JESSI, was also one of the assailants, which sparked controversy. JESSI was then questioned by the police for accusations of threats, complicity, and concealing a crime, but the case was ultimately closed without charges.
