KARD will release its eighth mini-album « DRIFT» this July 2 at 6 p.m.
KARD returns for a comeback after 11 months. Their new album, « DRIFT », shows that they continue to forge their own path without stopping, even amidst countless ups and downs.
JEON SOMIN expressed his excitement, saying, « We’re back after 11 months, and it’s a little different from last year. It feels like KARD’s confidence and strength. I think the five songs on this album will bring a sense of freshness. I hope you enjoy listening to them. » .
JSEPH stated, « I’m really happy to be back after 11 months, but I’m sorry to the fans who waited 11 months » . He expressed his feelings about the comeback, saying, « I’ve collected and written a lot of great songs for you during my hiatus. All the songs are good, so I hope you’ll listen to them and enjoy them.».
They announced that the initial plan was to release the “DRIFT Project” as a digital single, featuring only the song « Touch». After careful consideration, the members decided to redouble their efforts to release a new OP, given the fans’ anticipation.
With this album, they reveal a wild and sexy charm never seen before.
BM said : «This album is sexy, for adults. We’re in our eighth year and we’re at an age where we can express these kinds of things naturally. Because before, I seemed simple, I thought it was time to make a radical change.».
He continued, «Rather than saying that the sexy concept was intended for adults, the content of the song « Touch » itself is about love, seduction, and attraction, so I thought a music video could express that visually. That’s why we tried to include that in the video. In fact, we didn’t know if the video would be rated R+19, and by our standards, it’s not that provocative, so we were surprised that the video was rated R+19.».
When asked if a music video with a lower rating would be released, given that it was deemed inappropriate for young people, JEON JIWOO replied, «There are no plans». On the other hand, JEON SOMIN said,
« I never imagined it would be rated as a 19+ rating. Seeing the song, the music video, and the performance, we naturally expressed our love through togetherness, but we didn’t know it would be rated as a 19+ rating. I think the charm of KARD lies in the fact that we don’t try to hide it, but express it honestly. I think it would be nice if you saw it as a sincere expression of what we want to express ».
BM also added, « We’re at an age where we can fully express our adult sensuality. There are also us male members who are over 30 », explaining why they attempted such bold sensuality.
In today’s interview, the group All Day Project, a co-ed group, was mentioned. When talking about the junior group, JEON SOMIN said : « There’s no competition. I just thought it was a really good sign. When we first came out, co-ed groups were rare, so they looked at us with a bad eye. But time has passed, and now a co-ed group is back. I think we left a strong image and became attractive, so I think it’s a really good sign ». JSEPH continued,
« When I look at the shorts, there are comments mentioning KARD about co-ed groups. Sometimes these comments are malicious, but I think it’s good that they mention us »,
and BM confessed :« I find co-ed groups more fun to watch. When we first started, we didn’t know what to do and wondered how to succeed. Now that time has passed and I’m watching them from afar, I think the public must have seen us like that when we first started.».
JEON JIWOO said : « The main advantage of a co-ed group is that the songs are richer. It’s fun to watch and listen to. I think the advantage of a co-ed group is that no matter how you combine them, you can create varied combinations , explaining their appeal. When asked about the scandals within the team, which have always sparked curiosity when discussing co-ed groups, JSEPH replied, « The answer is clear. They’re just brothers and sisters ». JEON JIWOO added,
« I think the world has opened up a lot compared to eight years ago. When we first started, there was a lot of prejudice about considering relationships between members of co-ed groups as romantic relationships, but now, I think it’s better to think of them as friends or siblings ».
During this interview to celebrate the release of their eighth mini-album « DRIFT», held at a cafe in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, KARD hinted, « Shouldn’t we release a full-length album to celebrate our 10th anniversary? Our fans are eagerly awaiting it ».
KARD debuted in December 2016 with the single « Oh NaNa » and has already celebrated its eighth anniversary, but has yet to release a full-length album. The members also expressed their regret: « We need to move forward like we did with this album. We should write a lot of songs in advance and prepare them. The members are in agreement (on creating a full-length album), so shouldn’t we join forces to make it happen? » thus raising new expectations.
In the meantime, KARD‘s eighth mini-album, « DRIFT », will be released on several music sites at 6 PM on July 2nd.
