TAEIL
TAEIL, former member of NCT, is appealing the initial court judgment.

According to a Korean news outlet on July 16, TAEIL has filed an appeal against the first-instance court ruling. On July 15, the prosecution also filed an appeal, challenging the verdict. The two other individuals involved in the case alongside TAEIL also submitted their own notices of appeal on the same day.
On July 10 at 2 p.m. KST, the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court held a sentencing hearing for TAEIL and two other individuals, who were charged with aggravated rape under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
TAEIL had been indicted for raping an intoxicated woman together with two acquaintances on June 12 of last year.
Acknowledging all charges, the three defendants, including TAEIL, were sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison. The court also ordered them to complete 40 hours of a sex offender treatment program, to have their personal information disclosed, and imposed a five-year employment ban in institutions related to children and adolescents.
TAEIL, who had remained free until then, was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing. The court justified this decision by stating:
“Due to the sentence of imprisonment, we believe there is a risk of flight. Therefore, a warrant for detention is issued.”
When asked if he had anything to say regarding his detention, TAEIL simply murmured, “No.”
The case, now under appeal by all parties, will be transferred to a higher court.
As a reminder, TAEIL debuted in 2016 with NCT U and was the main vocalist of NCT 127. He left the group in October 2024 and terminated his contract with SM Entertainment following this case.
