The name of BigHit Music’s new rookie group has finally been revealed.

On August 7, BigHit Music launched the group’s official social media accounts and announced the name: CORTIS.
This name is made up of six letters taken irregularly from the phrase “COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES”, and it means “to think freely, beyond the norms and rules imposed by society.”
The five members, MARTIN, JAMES, JUHOON, SEONGHYEON, and KEONHO, aim to present works to the world created from a different perspective, in line with the message behind their name.
The way CORTIS unveiled its name was original as well. At midnight on August 7, the group posted a video titled “Logo Sound” on TikTok, the short-form video platform. It was MARTIN who personally created the sound for the video using his own music production software.

The video shows the group’s name appearing on screen, accompanied by a mysterious sound that evokes the feeling of entering an unknown world. True to their identity as a “crew of young creators,” the members made their debut with content they produced themselves, blending music, choreography, and video.
This video also marks the first appearance of the CORTIS members. They are shown joyfully working in a studio, surrounded by audio equipment and keyboards, filming one another. It’s a natural glimpse into their real creative environment. They even decorated the studio used as the backdrop for their videos themselves, and promote their social media accounts within this setting, revealing a unique and original creative world.

In addition, CORTIS will officially debut on August 18.
Made up entirely of young artists in their twenties, this “crew of young creators” will be actively involved in writing lyrics, composing music, choreographing, and even videography, drawing inspiration from their own life experiences. This highly anticipated group is BigHit Music’s first boy group in six years, following BTS and TXT, the agency’s two flagship groups. As a result, K-pop fans’ excitement is already running high.
