V of BTS has set a global record in the online music market with his collaboration with Park Hyo Shin on “Winter ahead (with Park Hyoshin).” On the world’s largest music platform, Spotify, “Winter ahead” surpassed 400 million streams, making V the artist with six songs each exceeding 400 million streams: “Love me again,” “Christmas tree,” “Sweet night,” “FRI(END)S,” “Slow dancing,” and now “Winter ahead.”
Released last November 29, “Winter ahead” debuted on the main US Billboard singles chart, the “Hot 100,” reaching No. 1 on the “Holiday Digital Song Sales” chart and No. 62 on the “Holiday Top 100.” V is the only K-pop artist to have placed three songs, “Christmas tree,” “White christmas,” and “Winter ahead”, on the “Holiday Top 100,” and each of these three songs reached No. 1 on the “Holiday Digital Song Sales” chart. The song also debuted at No. 1 on the UK Official Charts singles download chart and No. 2 on the singles sales chart, simultaneously topping the two main pop charts.
“Winter ahead” dominated the global music video trends chart, the high-quality streaming platform TIDAL where it held the No. 1 spot longest on the “Global Top Video,” as well as setting the record for the most countries where it reached No. 1. This success proves the worldwide influence of V’s fandom, and despite being a seasonal song, it has maintained steady popularity eight months after its release.
Billboard selected “Winter ahead” among the “27 Best Winter Songs of the Season,” noting it evokes the first day of the cold season. They described the harmony of the two artists as fresh as snow crystals. Billboard also predicted the song would remain popular well beyond December 25, anticipating long-lasting love. Indeed, “Winter ahead” was ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s “Fans’ Favorite Songs of 2024,” solidifying its undisputed status as a global winter anthem.
