BTS member RM is set to become the first K-pop artist to collaborate with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in a groundbreaking large-scale project.

On October 3, SFMOMA announced the launch of a special exhibition titled “RM x SFMOMA”, organized in partnership with RM.
The exhibition will run from October 2026 to February 2027, showcasing over 200 works, including pieces from RM’s personal collection as well as works from the museum. It will seek to organically connect the visual and conceptual contexts of both collections, while offering insight into RM’s artistic sensibility and aesthetic as a collector. RM will also take part as a co-curator.
This marks the first collaboration of its kind between SFMOMA and a K-pop artist since the museum’s founding. The institution, deeply impressed by RM’s refined taste in art collecting and his passion for contemporary art, proposed the project as a joint production with him.
RM stated:
“We live in an era defined by borders. I hope this exhibition becomes a space to reflect on the boundaries between East and West, Korea and the U.S., modernity and contemporaneity, the individual and the universal.”
He added: “There’s no set way to appreciate this exhibition, but I hope it can serve as a small yet solid bridge for many.”
Janet Bishop, Chief Curator of SFMOMA, commented:
“Visitors will have an unprecedented opportunity to experience RM’s collection of paintings and sculptures, both beautiful and contemplative—engaging in dialogue with the museum’s holdings.”
RM’s collection includes works from leading figures in contemporary Korean art, as well as renowned artists from around the globe. The exhibition will present works from a wide range of countries and cultures, with many pieces being shown to the public for the first time.

The SFMOMA is one of the largest modern art museums in the United States, housing a prestigious collection spanning painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design, and media art.
Further details about the special exhibition “RM x SFMOMA”, the result of this historic collaboration, will be available on BTS’s official Weverse fan platform.
