Today, February 25, MBN launched its new trot survival show titled “트롯 오디션 MBN ‘무명전설-트롯 사내들의 서열전쟁’” (in English: “MBN Trot Audition ‘Unknown Legend – The Trot Men’s Ranking War’”).
To mark the launch of this new production, KSTATION TV was invited to the press conference held on February 25th at the Stratford Hotel in Seoul.
Presented as the opening show of the 2026 trot competition season, this show will bring together 99 contestants ready to do whatever it takes to claim a single throne. Producer KIM WOOJIN explained the program’s ambition:
“One might wonder why another trot audition? But while preparing the show, I felt the immense potential this genre still holds. We are doing our best to introduce new faces and new stories.”
The concept of this new show is based on a hierarchy of fame, called the “Ranking Tower”. The participants are divided into five levels. The first three levels contain 81 contestants who are still unknown to the general public. For many, this is their very first media appearance. Conversely, the fourth and fifth levels house 18 more established contestants whose identities are concealed behind masks.
“We want to show the process by which the participants, within a hierarchical structure based on fame, laugh, cry, compete, and ultimately rise to legendary status.” – KIM WOOJIN
These masked contestants are already generating a lot of buzz. Presented under intriguing pseudonyms like “SKY“, “차트 역주행” (meaning “Rising Star”), “천만배우” (in English: “Actor with Ten Million Viewers”), “군필돌” (in English: “Military Idol”), “리틀 김준수” (in English: “Little Kim Junsu”), and “리틀 싸이” (in English: “Little PSY”), they are fueling all sorts of speculation. Their real identities remain secret, adding suspense and tension to the competition.
However, fame is no guarantee of victory. Each contestant will have to prove their worth on stage. As SON TAEJIN pointed out: “In Korea, there are many talented singers, but few stages for them to perform on. This is a special opportunity offered to artists. I therefore ask for your support.”
JANG MINHO and KIM DAEHO will be the MCs of the show. Both admitted to feeling a lot of pressure about hosting it.
“I’ve participated in audition shows, and when I see candidates trembling on stage, I get even more nervous than if I were the one on stage. I’ve been anonymous for over 22 years, so I really wanted to be there for them on this journey. I decided to participate, hoping that the candidates might find courage by watching me.” – JANG MINHO
“I joined MBC in 2011 through an audition and left the company last year. It was a challenge for me too. Hosting this audition is an experience. There are already experienced veterans in this field. I was both excited and nervous, but I told myself it would also be a great opportunity for me.” — KIM DAEHO
The program also boasts a jury of thirteen renowned figures: NAM JIN, JO HANGJO, JOO HYUN-MI, SHIN YU, KANG MOONKYUNG, SON TAEJIN, KIM JINRYONG, KIM KWANGKYU, HAN CHAEYOUNG, YANG SEHYUNG, HONG HYUNHEE, IVY, and LIM HANBYUL. Their experience is expected to lead to demanding evaluations and memorable moments.
YANG SEHYUNG emphasised the intensity of the show: “The contestants take to the stage with unparalleled determination. Viewers will feel the same emotion as they witness their passionate and dedicated performances.“
With 99 contestants and only one winner, “MBN Trotting Audition ‘Unknown Legend – The Trotting Men’s Ranking War’” promises an intense competition where talent, ambition, and reputation will clash.
Finally, the very first episode will air on February 25, 2026 at 9:40 PM on MBN channel.
