On the morning of May 7 (Korean time), the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, published a commemorative photo with BTS via her official account, accompanied by the message:
“Welcome to BTS, one of the groups most loved by Mexican youth. Music and values unite Mexico and Korea.”
That day, the members of BTS visited the presidential palace at the invitation of President Sheinbaum, and greeted citizens from the balcony of the presidential palace which was opened for the occasion. Some members expressed their gratitude by capturing on their personal accounts the image of the many fans gathered in the square from the balcony.
Last January, during the announcement of the BTS concert in Mexico City, President Sheinbaum had welcomed their visit by mentioning: “I am delighted that this concert is happening. It is a historical moment.” She had also manifested great interest by asking for the addition of extra dates for the show.
Furthermore, the visit of BTS to Mexico is raising great expectations on the economic level. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimated that this concert would generate economic benefits of approximately 107.5 million dollars.
In addition, according to the local daily “El universal”, Mexico City has been identified as the city listening to the music of BTS the most on Spotify. This allows for the measurement of the unparalleled influence they exert on the local popular music market.
BTS will take the stage of the “Estadio GNP Seguros” in Mexico City for three days in total, on the 7th as well as next May 9 and 10. Tickets for the three concerts sold out quickly as soon as the ticket office opened.
