A controversy breaks out as an announcement for unpaid staff recruitment targeting fans circulates regarding the overseas concert tour of the famous singer “A“.
Recently, a staff recruitment announcement for singer “A“‘s concert in Germany spread across various online communities. This post, written by a person claiming to be an acquaintance of the concert manager, contains information about recruiting staff to ensure order on-site and booth management on the day of the performance.
The author set the working conditions as “unpaid”, “meals provided”, and “possibility to watch the show”. In contrast, for the required qualifications, specific conditions were demanded, such as proficiency in Korean, German, and English, as well as experience in K-pop concerts and knowledge related to performances. In the said announcement, it was also specified that the ticket prices for “A“‘s concert in Germany were approximately 420,000 won for VIP, 190,000 won for Priority, and 150,000 won for standard seats.
Those who saw this raised the issue by showing reactions such as “Unpaid volunteers for a commercial event?” or “There are many requirements but it is unpaid”.
Faced with the criticism, the author explained: “Since this could be a good opportunity for the fans of the said singer, I posted this message, so it would be good if only interested people apply. Interpretation is paid.”
However, this explanation instead sparked additional criticism. On the Internet, reactions followed one after another, such as: “If they are fans, shouldn’t they be treated even better?”
The questions that arise, should fans be in the organization or rather enjoy the concert? If requirements are requested, should they be paid? Does volunteering not simply call for volunteerism?
