While 9 members of THE BOYZ sought a new agency together, NEW, who had chosen a different path on his own, announced a new beginning at ONLY NEW ENTERTAINMENT.
On September 28, NEW announced the signing of an exclusive contract with ONLY NEW ENTERTAINMENT and revealed new profile photos. This comes about a month after his separation from his former agency One Hundred Label.
Previously, THE BOYZ went through internal dissensions this year regarding exclusive contracts. Last February, with the exception of NEW, SANGYEON, JACOB, YOUNGHOON, HYUNJAE, JUYEON, KEVIN, Q, SUNWOO and ERIC notified One Hundred of the termination of their exclusive contract, citing non-payment of settlements and the breach of the relationship of trust.
NEW was the only one not to join their contract termination movement and maintained his contractual relationship with One Hundred. Subsequently, the court accepted last April the request for an injunction to suspend the validity of the exclusive contracts filed by the members against One Hundred. NEW, who had remained alone, reportedly also terminated his exclusive contract by mutual agreement last August on the condition of returning his signing bonus. As a result, all members of THE BOYZ ended up leaving One Hundred.
Subsequently, the members’ paths also divided. SANGYEON, JACOB, YOUNGHOON, HYUNJAE, JUYEON, KEVIN, Q, SUNWOO and ERIC signed a group activities contract last August and announced that they would pursue THE BOYZ‘s activities together. On the 14th of this month, the new label 78Records officialized that it would manage their group activities.
At the time, the members stated: “The mindset that the 9 of us should be together has never changed since the beginning”, expressing their intention to continue promotions under the name THE BOYZ. Individual activities are taking place within their respective agencies, while group activities continue through 78Records.
Having made their debut in 2017 as a 12-member group, THE BOYZ had become a 10-member group following the departure of HWALL and JU HAKNYEON‘s distance from the team. With NEW‘s exclusion from the group activities contract and the search for a separate new agency, they now seem to be taking different paths. Although NEW‘s official departure has not been announced, as official announcements regarding group activities specify a “9-member system”, THE BOYZ is expected to pursue future activities excluding NEW.
Coincidence or not, the name of the new home chosen by NEW is ONLY NEW ENTERTAINMENT. While the members gathered under the name THE BOYZ, NEW begins his own journey in a new agency that recalls his name.
