The singer and actor REN (CHOI MIN GI), a former member of the group NU’EST, filed an application for a temporary injunction to suspend the validity of his exclusive contract against his agency BIG PLANET MADE ENTERTAINMENT.
According to information gathered by our outlet on September 22, CHOI MIN GI recently submitted an application for a temporary injunction to suspend the validity of his exclusive contract against BIG PLANET MADE ENTERTAINMENT with the Seoul Central District Court, through his legal representative, the Surim law firm. The hearing date has been set for October 12.
CHOI MIN GI was preparing to resume his activities after being discharged from his alternative service duties on June 25. However, CHOI MIN GI‘s side maintains that the agency did not assign dedicated personnel, including a manager in charge, an A&R team, and a PR team, and was unable to present concrete activity and production plans.
BIG PLANET MADE is a label under ONE HUNDRED, headed by Chairwoman CHA GA WON. CHOI MIN GI‘s side explains that right after his discharge, he met with CHA GA WON and her representative to listen to explanations regarding support for his future activities and observed the company’s situation, but as no practical support for his activities was provided afterward, the relationship of trust deteriorated.
In this regard, CHOI MIN GI‘s side sent a legal notice on August 25 to the agency demanding the correction of contract violations. It was explained that they requested dedicated personnel, future activity plans, documents related to financial settlements, as well as documents allowing them to verify the viability of the company’s activities, but did not receive a satisfactory response.
According to CHOI MIN GI‘s side, the company’s representative responded that it was difficult to provide settlements and related documents due to the lack of remaining employees and a lack of handover regarding existing tasks.
Furthermore, it is reported that Chairwoman CHA GA WON conveyed through her representative a position requesting contract termination subject to the payment of a penalty fee corresponding to the remaining duration of the contract.
CHOI MIN GI‘s side stated that they initiated legal proceedings believing that the company was merely attempting to maintain the binding force of the contract in a situation where it is difficult for it to perform normal management work. They also cited as grounds for the injunction request that having already suffered a long hiatus in his activities due to military service, any delay in his return due to a contractual dispute would cause him damage that would be difficult to repair.
CHOI MIN GI made his debut in 2012 as part of the group NU’EST. After NU’EST‘s activities concluded in 2022, he pursued his activities as a solo singer and actor, before entering the training center in September 2024 to fulfill his military duties as alternative service.
