The mega-hit “Hype boy” by the group NEWJEANS has exceeded 800 million streams on the global audio and music platform Spotify.
According to Spotify on the 1st, “Hype boy”, one of the three title tracks from NEWJEANS‘ debut album, “NEW JEANS”, was played 800,022,045 times as of the 29th of last month. It is the fourth song in the group’s history to reach 800 million streams, following “OMG”, “Ditto”, and “Super shy”.
“Hype boy” is NEWJEANS‘ debut song, appealing with its refreshing and refined sound combining moombahton and electro pop. Upon its release in August 2022, it hit Korean and international charts by triggering a true storm of popularity.
Continuous interest from critics also followed. “Hype boy” was selected last year as one of the “Best Songs of the 21st Century” published by the American music magazine Rolling Stone. The media outlet commented on this song, stating: “It possesses both a fresh, modern sound and a retro sensibility.”

Although their music is continuously loved, NEWJEANS is currently on an enforced hiatus. After declaring the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR in November 2024 and attempting to pursue independent activities, the court ruled in favor of ADOR in October of last year during the lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract filed by ADOR, and the first-instance judgment was confirmed after the members did not appeal.
HAERIN and HYEIN officialized their return to ADOR in November of the same year, declaring that they respected the court’s decision and would abide by their exclusive contract.
