(G)I-DLE

Presented by JO KWON who has just finished his military service, the young girls of the popular group (G)I-DLE introduce themselves to the press, who because of the Covid-19 cannot stand in front of the group. This showcase is therefore done on Youtube, in live broadcast. Smiling, the six members introduce themselves one by one, MIYEON, MINNIE, YUQI, SHUHUA, SOYEON and SOOJIN, and come back in a few sentences on their passage in the program Queendom which they very much appreciated. It was a great experience for them to meet other groups and try new things.
Is then released the medley of their new mini-album, containing five tracks, including their previous title “Lion“. JO KWON returns to the fact that “Lion” was a very popular song when he was doing his military service, which ended a few days ago. MINNIE presents the album as a compendium of songs they have produced themselves.
« The meaning of this album is “I believe myself, I know myself”.» – SOYEON
YUQI talks about this new experience that she was able to forge in the production of this album, confident that she turned a lot to SOYEON for advice, which she considers to be more used to producing, which YUQI finds very professional on its part. She continues by talking about the song “I love you“. This track is set apart from the rest of the album by its debut, performed using SOYEON‘s tongue snaps. The latter then demonstrated on stage. MIYEON then expressed her frustration at not being able to make their world tour, but accepted this decision for the good of all, controlling the Covid-19 pandemic being everyone’s priority.

Without further ado, the MV of their title song “Oh my god” is broadcast. The clip is sometimes pure, sometimes dark, juggling between shots where the light shines and where the girls are surrounded only by props or dancers in white, and other shots which on the contrary dirty the members who are in the mud, or surrounded by blood. Some black and white shots can even remind them of their “Lion” clip. The title of this title is that you have to live with yourself, even through the clash between reality and the feelings of rejection, confusion, recognition or even confidence that you may feel.
« Certain scenes were complicated to shoot. For example, there is a scene where I am covered in paint. Between each take, I had to wash, be covered again, and then wash again and again. Even though filming was sometimes difficult, it was still a lot of fun. » – MINNIE
Then returning to the stage, SUJIN rises from her stool to show the choreography of the chorus in more detail, the rest of the group singing to accompany her. SOYEON then announces the holding of a fanmeeting which will be carried out on the internet online to meet their fans, confined by the virus. (G)I-DLE is then equipped with microphones and the group performs for the first time their new title, accompanied by several dancers dressed in black lace hiding their faces, recalling the sweetness, but also the harshness of their MV. The choreography, however, allows each girl to be fairly highlighted.
The six members return to their seats to answer questions from journalists. They describe this album as depicting a “black and white” concept, to prove that even if we are a bad person, a demon as SOYEON defines, there is always something positive in us, in which to believe. This is how they prepared two types of performances for this comeback: a white and a black or between other words, a pure and a dark. Throughout the showcase, the girls remained smiling, seeming really enthusiastic to go back on stage after nine months, since the release of their last album.
The dynamism of this album is not found in its sounds, but rather in its visual concept oscillating between devil and angel. The album therefore has two versions: True and Lie. More specifically, the video for “Oh my god” shows the pure but at the same time terrible definition of love, which cannot be divided in two according to a dystopian logic between black and white, shown using certain scenes where the girls are immersed in purple water or red clay, covered with black paint or even blood on their faces.
After crowning themselves in “Lion”, the six members of the group (G)I-DLE are back in power with this new title, breaking the gender limits imposed for too long on female groups, offering majestic performances to show their strength and passion. Without further ado, discover their latest title “Oh my god“.
A word from our reporter: “Whether through the outfits, the dance or the clip, this comeback is beautiful. The girls are fierce and fervently assume this style that will delight them”.
