The production company apologized for the alleged plagiarism of the group STAYC for the music video for “So bad“.
On November 16th, Legend Film, which produced the music video for STAYC‘s “So bad“, said on its official SNS: “We are posting a message to express our official position on the STAYC MV plagiarism controversy.“
“Legend Film was in charge of the Super-Vising (overall responsibility) of this MV and was responsible for all aspects of the planning, directing and art, so we are ashamed and miserable for the controversy over plagiarism We don’t intend to rationalize the scene with words of misunderstanding, and we don’t intend to deny these various props (mirror balls, confetti, background, trees, .. The various props listed above were also frequently used in various ways in Legend Film production clips, ”a rep said.
“We recognize and admit that the scene that has been shown is a controversy that cannot be avoided. We have personally apologized to High-Up Entertainment and STAYC, which has raised concerns over the controversy, and we would like to We apologize to many fans and the public for performing an artistic visual without thorough prior investigation during the production phase. “
Earlier, group STAYC debuted on November 12th with the release of its first single, “Star To A Young Culture”. However, controversy erupted over plagiarism allegations that the music video for the title track “So bad” was similar to American pop star Miley Silas’ music video “Midnight Sky”.

리전드필름은 본 MV의 슈퍼바이징(총책임)을 담당하면서 기획 연출 아트 등 모든 부분에 관여, 총 책임을 하였기에 관련 표절논란에 대해서 부끄럽고 참담한 마음을 금치 못합니다. 오마주란 오해소지의 단어로 관련 장면을 합리화할 생각은 전혀 없으며, 여러 소품(미러볼, 컨페티, 은박 소재 배경, 나무 등)에 대한 조합을 연출단계에서 연출감독님들과 협의하에 활용하기로 결정하고, 현장 배치를 통해 나온 장면으로써 일체 관련 장면을 표절하고자 하는 의도는 없었음을 명백히 밝힙니다. 위에 나열한 여러 소품들은 리전드필름 연출MV에서 다양한 방식으로 자주 활용되었던 소품이기도 했었습니다.
하지만 이런 아트소품의 조합을 통해서 결과적으로 보여진 해당 장면은 피해갈 수 없는 논란임을 인지하고 인정하는 바입니다. 해당 논란으로 염려를 끼친 하이업 엔터테인먼트와 STAYC, 관련 스탭들에게 죄송하다는 말씀을 직접 전달 드렸으며, 제작단계에서 비주얼, 아트 컨펌을 철저한 사전조사없이 진행한 부분에 대해 많은 팬들과 대중들에게 죄송하다는 말씀을 드리고 싶습니다. 죄송합니다.
