JACKSON WANG : A personal story through his new MV “一个人 Alone”

JACKSON WANG released his new single, “一个人 Alone” .

On January 30th, JACKSON WANG released a new MV entitled “一个人 Alone“, after a surprise announcement two days prior. This one is the second of his Chinese series, following his collaboration with JJ LIN, “過 Should’ve let go “.

In this MV directed by OJUN KWON and the artist himself, JACKSON is seen alone, with scratches on his face. The video opens on him, sitting in a room where a table full of food is surrounded by scattered items. With the numerous details appearing in the video, his fencing mask, the Olympic Games logo, the road sign to the airport, it seems that JACKSON is telling about his story with this personal song. But what is his story?

No one can help us walk the road we’re taking. While we may get lost and feel lonely along the way, we cannot give up halfway through. Especially when there is one thing that we love, it will drive us to keep going.

JACKSON didn’t start his career in music. Born in a family of athletes, he followed the footsteps of his father as a fencer. In 2010, he won the gold medal at the Summer Youth Olympics and was preparing for the London Games. Yet, fencing was not his main passion. Around the same period, he auditioned for JYP Entertainment to become a singer, which resulted in him debuting in 2014 as a member of GOT7. As he pursued his career with the group, he opened his own label TEAM WANG in 2017 to develop his solo career. Ever since, his career has been growing fast in several different fields and he seems to be aiming even higher: lately, his label signed a business partnership with Sublime Artist Agency to support his career and launch some global projects. However, after making the risky decision to leave his promising career as an athlete, his journey has not been easy. Through different interviews and his first album “MIRRORS“, he confided that he went through very difficult moments that have affected him mentally and restricted him from going forward with his career. So, this is the story he seems to tell.

The journey will be tumultuous because nothing in this world is easy, but our love for that one thing we’re chasing is bigger than anything else. We get used to all the hardships, pain, and suffering, even the resentment, that comes with it.

With this new song, JACKSON proves once again how versatile of an artist he is. Far from the hip-hop he started his career with, this pop song brings out his deep voice with an instrumental support that is particularly rich and soft. However, his versatility goes further than musical genres: he left his imprint in every aspect of the song. Teaming up with his friend and producer BOYTOY, he wrote, produced, arranged and composed the song. His work, talent and his music seem to be taking to the public: on the day of the release of his new song, #JacksonWang_Alone et #王嘉尔中文新歌一个人 were trending first place on Twitter globally, and the single peaked at #1 on iTunes in 16 countries, breaking his record of 12 number ones.
