Ex-BIGBANG member SEUNGRI was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment and ordered to pay 1.15 billion won (750,000 euros) in damages.
To understand this conviction, we must go back to 2019. The “Burning Sun” scandal broke and upset South Korea and the Kpop world. Indeed, several idols are affected and are forced to withdraw from the public scene. It is also the case of the former CEO of YG entertainment Yang Hyun-suk who will leave his post within the agency.
SEUNGRI, was then charged with offering prostitutes to Taiwanese, Japanese and Chinese investors. But also of having embezzled 528 million won from his company, which was responsible for the management of the Burning Sun club. A little later, we learned that he had gambled money, including in Las Vegas. This is illegal for a South Korean citizen. Finally last January, an additional charge was added, since SEUNGRI would have benefited from the services of a gang during a violent conflict in a bar in 2015.
Although the ex-BIGBANG member has claimed his innocence of these various allegations. At the last hearing on July 2, the military prosecutors asked for a five-year prison sentence and a 20 million won, saying:
“He (SEUNGRI ) showed no remorse and blamed others even though he profited greatly from his crimes.
SEUNGRI was eventually found guilty of engaging in illegal transactions, including in Las Vegas casinos, as well as using prostitutes for potential investors.

The judge in Hwang Min Je added :
“It is hard to believe that the defendant was unaware of the money paid to the women in exchange for sexual services.”
Indeed, according to the prosecution, the singer would have called for sexual services for his investors more than 24 times in the space of 5 months. The court also added that it was unthinkable to let such acts go unpunished, especially since SEUNGRI is a very influential public figure.
This 3-year prison sentence comes at a time when SEUNGRI should have finished his military service in a month. Many of his fans were hoping that the singer would be cleared in order, to see reunited at five members band BIGBANG. But unfortunately, this seems to be compromised.
