BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has surpassed 70 million subscribers. This is the first and highest record among all the artists in the world.

According to YG Entertainment on November 28th, the number of subscribers to BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel topped 70 million as of 11:34 a.m. that day. It’s been about five years and five months since the BLACKPINK channel opened, on June 28, 2016.
BLACKPINK was the first non-English speaking artist to feature in the “Top 5 YouTube Subscribers” in July 2020, demonstrating their strong presence. Since then, the channel has in turn overtaken famous pop stars such as Ariana Grande, Eminem, Ed Sheeran, Marshmallow and Justin Bieber, finally becoming on September 10 the most powerful YouTube artist in the world.
BLACKPINK has grown rapidly, retaining millions of new YouTube subscribers every time it releases a new song, regardless of group and solo activities. Recently, LISA’s debut solo album “Lalisa” attracted over 5 million new subscribers, widening the gap with Justin Bieber, the top artist channel, ahead of BLACKPINK, to solidify its place.
As YouTube is leading changes in the landscape in the global music market, the number of subscribers to the channel is one of the significant indicators. This is because the “subscription” is like a token the size of a loyal fandom and their expectations beyond mere curiosity or unique viewing of the content.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK has produced a total of 32 billion views on its YouTube channel alone, with the addition of cumulative views on other channels reaching 21.3 billion. Among them, the trend of increasing the number of views of music videos for the latest songs has become stronger, and the existing hit songs are still popular.
By way of illustration, the music video for the title track “Ddu-du ddu-du” from the debut mini album “SQUARE UP” in 2018 surpassed 1.7 billion views, breaking a new record for the first, highest among K-pop groups. In addition, the music videos for “Kill this love” (1.4 billion views), “Boombayah” (1.3 billion views), “As if it’s your last” (1.1 billion views) and “How you like that” (1 billion views) have passed the billion views mark.
