BTS: At the top of the IFPI ranking

This Thursday, February 24, 2022, the IFPI organization shared the ranking of the artists who sold the most albums during the year 2021.

The IFPI or the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, created in 1933, is an international organization whose mission is to ensure that the copyrights of the phonographic record industry are respected throughout the world. The organization also awards certifications to albums that have sold at least 1 million copies in Europe and unveils, each year, a ranking of the 10 international artists who have sold the most physical and digital albums on an international scale. during the year, streams (listening to titles on streaming platforms) are also taken into account. Through the ranking, the IFPI rewards the leading artist with the award of Global Recording Artist of the Year.

The ranking of the year 2021 was published this Thursday, February 24 on the organization’s social networks, thereby revealing that the winner of the year 2021 is BTS.

The group had already been awarded in 2020, thus being the first artist in the history of the IFPI to be awarded for two consecutive years. BTS also placed second in 2018 and seventh in 2019.

Frances Moore, CEO of IFPI, commented on the win, “BTS’ phenomenal success over the past year is a testament to their creativity, hard work, and ongoing commitment to continuing to find ways to make know their music all over the world. By performing in three different languages, they demonstrate their unique international appeal and their vibrant and passionate fan base has helped make them the first artists in history to hold the top spot on the Global Chart. The album for which BTS is rewarded will be staged at concerts in Seoul on Thursday March 10, Saturday March 12 and Sunday March 13.
