NCT/WAYV: LUCAS leaves the group to focus on solo

A dreaded and awaited news.

This morning the news came. SM ENTERTAINMENT, the group agency of NCT and WAYV (linked to the Chinese agency LABEL V) shared a press release on the situation of LUCAS saying that the latter was withdrawing from the NCT and WAYV groups, of which he was a member.

LUCAS debuted as part of NCT U‘s sub-unit in 2018, with the title track “Boss” coming from NCT’s 2018 album “EMPATHY”. After debuting as a new member of NCT, the young man saw his debut alongside WAYV in 2019 with his debut single “THE VISION” featuring NCT 127‘s song “Regular” in Chinese version. This was followed by the release of the group’s first mini-album by the name of “TAKE OFF” the same year.

As a reminder, WAYV is the Chinese sub-unit of NCT, and LUCAS was part of it with the other current members TEN, KUN and WINWIN, as well as three other new members namely YANGYANG, XIAOJUN and HENDERY.

LUCAS did not stop there, since the latter joined the SUPERM group the following year, in 2019. The group was at that time the new project of the agency, to create a group forming the “Avengers”. from KPOP. It is made up of LUCAS, TEN from WAYV/NCT, MARK, TAEYONG from NCT 127, KAI and BAEKHYUN from EXO, and finally TAEMIN from SHINEE. The new group debuts with the title “Jopping” and their first mini-album “SUPERM”.

However, about two years ago, the young man was put on hiatus, with the agreement of SM ENTERTAINMENT following accusations (which turned out to be false). Since then, the artist posted from time to time on his Instagram account, but the agency remained silent after the announcement of his break. It is therefore today that LUCAS announces on his Instagram account his decision to leave the NCT & WAYV groups, following a long reflection and a discussion with his agency.

Here is the letter that the young artist posts on his account, intended for his fans:

“Hello, this is Lucas.

Today I have an important announcement to make.

After much deliberation and thought, I have made the tough decision to part ways with NCT Group and WayV. I am sincerely sorry for the members, and it is with a heavy heart that I leave behind a longtime friendship. It has been almost 8 years since I joined the membership, and I am deeply grateful for their care and support. I will cherish those memories and I will never forget them. I hope the members will remember me as Huang Xuxi, not just Lucas. I sincerely love them and will always support them from the bottom of my heart.

It took me a long time to make this decision, and I believe it is the best choice for the good of everyone. Going forward, I intend to muster up the courage to face the fans who have been waiting for me and to pursue personal endeavors. I believe the best way to thank the fans who support me is to continue to deliver outstanding performances.

I will strive to become a more mature Huang Xuxi and an even better Lucas.

Finally, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the fans and everyone who has continuously supported me.”

The agency also provided a statement on its SNS, to update fans on the situation. We learn in it, that LUCAS will nevertheless pursue a career as a solo artist, according to the announcement of SM ENTERTAINMENT. Here is the agency’s statement following the artist’s decision to leave:
