Kpop4Planet held a protest criticizing music marketing that causes environmental pollution.

The environmental group led by K-pop fans “Kpop4Planet” held a protest under the theme of “Plastic Album Sins” in front of Hybe’s headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on September 4, two days before “자원순환” Day (September 6).
They denounced that the more albums they buy, the more likely they are to participate in signing sessions. They also criticized the practice of releasing various albums by changing the album cover or tricking people into buying albums until a photo card they want is theirs.
Kpop4Planet said that these fossil fuel-based albums should stop doing “evil marketing” because they are worsening the climate crisis and are mostly thrown away without recycling, causing plastic pollution problems.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment reported that the plastic used by local entertainment companies to manufacture albums was 801.5 tons (tonnes) in 2022, up from 479.0 tons in 2021 and 225.2 tons in 2020.
